Author: Stephen_Townsend Surnames: Hughes, Hancock, Dunn Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.coosa/2299.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Richard -- Here are some tips that may be helpful to you: - Try to get a copy of your grandfather's death certificate, if you do not already have it; it may identify his parents. - Coosa County registered the births of some individuals - perhaps Yancy or his kids were included in the registers (check neighboring counties as well). - Check the Coosa County Courthouse for a marriage record for Yancy and Hattie about 1919; it may identify relatives. I have researched in Coosa County, Alabama for years for my relatives there. Individuals with the sames of Slaughter, Brown and Chatman married into my family which was primarily Hughes, Hancock and Dunn from Coosa, Tallapoosa, Clay and Talladega Counties. Not sure what type of glimpse you are looking for related to the area, but would be glad to help provide any insight I can share. Author: firedist2 Surnames: Mullin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.coosa/655.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am a great granddaughter of Zaida LL. Baldwin Jordan-Mullin. Her son with William F Mullin, Jim Martin Mullin is my grandfather and my Dad is James Lenuel Mullin. My grandfather talked very fondly of your ancestors, Frank and John. Although, he was born in 1879 and younger, he stayed in touch with Frank over the years. Our family has been trying to learn more about Zaida L.L. Baldwin. She died when my grandfather was only 3 years old, so we don't have pictures of her. Do you have any that you can scan and send to me? Was she of Indian ancestry? I have visited her grave many times in the Painter's Cemetery, Shell Knob, MO. She held a special spot in my Grandfather's heart, although he was very young when she passed. She died during childbirth to a baby daughter, Emma. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. J.M. Sanders is listed at Mt. Olive Baptist Cemetery, Coosa County AL, however there are no dates. No other Sanders are listed at same cemetery. A Joshua & Missouri A. are listed at the old Goodwater cemetery. Issiac (?) & Mattie are at Concord Baptist cemetery. Castleberry. He was married to Elizabeth Parker. Martin Parker married Lacy's sister, Mary Ann, the day before Lacy married Martin's sister. During the War for Southern Independence Lacy was away with the 46th Ala. Elizabeth stayed with her brother Martin in Talladega. I'm trying to figure out when and where Lacy died. I find Elizabeth in 1880, Yalobusha Co., MS. She and Martin are both buried at New Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pine Valley. MS. I suspect Lacy died back in Coosa Co. AL, but can't find any records. He must have died between 1866 and 1880, for a lack of records. It's probably closer to 1870. The key for me is to find Elizabeth in 1870. Do you have any information on Elizabeth in 1870. William Castleberry (Lacy's oldest son) and Martin Parker are in Talladega Co., AL then. Lacy's family are all still in Coosa Co. If I could find her in 1870 I could close the gap on Lacy by 10 years. Any info would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Look at the 1880 US Census, AL Limestone Co., TS not stated, District 185. Listed on image is Thomas Giles, age 26, b. GA and wife Francis, age 22, b. AL, children John, age 4, b. AL, dau Viola, age 1, b. AL. This pretty much matches your information for the marriage in 1874, etc. Have you seen this image of 1880 US census?
