My grandmother, Hilda Faye McGrady Finn, is still alive. John Silas was in his 60's when she was born. John Silas only had one sibling, a brother, William Robert McGrady. Their father was killed in Petersburg, VA during the Civil War on 6/20/1864. I have a transcript of a letter he wrote to his sister, Caroline McGrady Kelley, informing her of her husband's death (Marion Kelley) during a battle in the Civil War. The letter was dated just 5 months before he himself was killed. They fought together in the same company. Several of Williams brothers were also confederate soldiers. I have all the regiments they were in. They called John Silas McGrady's first wife "Liza Jane." Her name was actually Elizabeth Jane Blankenship. She died shortly after giving birth to her last child, Fannie Beatrice, in 1904. The baby died at age 6 months. John and Liza Jane had 11 children together, including your grandfather, Blunt Davis McGrady. John Silas met Hannah Roberson at work at Avondale. He was a night watchman. She worked in the mill. They married and had 6 more children. Liza Jane was the daughter of William Blankenship and Sarah Roberts. William Blankenship was the son of John Blankenship and Milly. Blunt had a great aunt and uncle who were children of Robert C. McGrady and Rhoda Adeline McLaughlin (sp?) born 1851 and 1848 respectively. Blunt had a brother named James Toll who was probably named after Tolbert. If you will email me direct at downsville@aol.com, I will be happy to give you the info I have researched on this family. Kimbrel was the name of one of the ten precinct divisions of Coosa County at the time of the 1840 census - the first census of Coosa County. It was probably centered around the lands of Archibald Kimbrel, a settler in the county at the time of its founding and one called to jury duty for the first term of court in 1833. Judging by the names of some of the residents enumerated in Kimbrel precinct, John and Samuel Townsend, Mark Moore and others, it is possible that the area is now in northeast Elmore County. Elmore was formed in 1866 from Coosa and others. Later census and data identified these men with Brooksville, Seaman and Central communities now in Elmore County. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Annette Bradford" <abradford@nc.rr.com> To: <alcoosa@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 12:58 PM Subject: Re: [ALCOOSA] Kmibrell, Alabama > I checked Heritage of Coosa County, Brewer's history, the historical maps > at the U of AL, and the U of AL geography maps and I can't find Kimbrell. > Found it in Morgan County. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Richard Foster" <r.foster@mail.utexas.edu> > To: <ALCOOSA-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 9:54 AM > Subject: [ALCOOSA] Kmibrell, Alabama > > > > Did the town of Kimbrell, Alabama have any cemeteries? The Alabama legislature on Dec. 18, 1832, created Coosa County from land that they had acquired from the Creek Indians in the Treaty of Cusseta. On October 27, 2007, there will be a birthday celebration in Rockford as the county turns 175 years old and everyone is invited to the party. Mark the date on your calendar and plan to come as it will start at 10:00 a.m. and last until 5:00 p.m. Come to the party. No gifts required. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/

I will get my information out and post it in the next day or two. I have 2 of my grandchildren here durning the summer, and my hair has been standing on its ends. One is 11 and one 6 years. My 11 year old granddaughter has Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and has been real sick, she went to camp and I guess she got bit by a tick there. We are really thankful for a good doctor who started her on the medicine before the test came back postive or she would have really been sick by then. And 2 weeks ago today my nephew passed away at the age of 16, he had CP but was in realitvely good health, we had his 16th birthday party on the 14th and then on the morning of the 17th he had passed in his sleep. I hope thats the closest I ever come to losing one of my own. It was truly a blessing to have had him as long as we did, but its still hard to let go. He was on my side of the family. Have you been in touch with Rhonda? She had answered my posting! s also. She is a desendant of Enoch who was a son of Author.I am glad you found Alexander so far you are the only one I have talked to that has. Again so good to meet you and I will tell my husband all about you, he says I know more about his folks than he does, HA! Thanks to you, I have been able to find Alexander on the 1850 Alabama census records. He gave the census taker the info that he was born in Scotland and he was 52 years old, which would make his birth year 1798. It also shows his wife as Martha, born in Tennessee, and a teenage daughter living at home. That all makes sense because Arthur was born in Tennessee. My grandfather, Claude, once told me a story that the Nicholson's came to Alabama from Tenn driving a herd of cattle way before the Civil War. He believed that was when the name got changed from Nicholson to Nickolson. Seems one of the Nickolson boys was in trouble for stabbing a man in a knife fight. On a personal note, I am the granddaughter of Claude Nickolson, who was Lindsey's brother. My grandma was Hattie, my dad was Clifton who passed away in 1999. Dan and I are third cousins, or first cousins twice removed as we say in Virginia. I barely remember Elisha, I think he died when I was pretty young - seems like I remember a big long mustache which scared me. My aunts and uncles referred to him as Papa (but they pronounced it Popper). All of Dad's brothers are gone, but my three aunts (Faye, May, and AnnaMarie) are still going strong. I will keep you posted as I find out more information on Alexander. If you get a minute, would you send the names of his other children and we may be able to figure out Martha's father and Alexander's father. I live near an outstanding geneological library and will start looking at passenger lists. I do have some information on the Cooper's which I will send you as soon as I get it in a more readable format. Keep in touch and I will do the same. Please tell my newly found cousin, Dan, hello for me as well as your family. Warm regards, Kay Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am hoping to find information on Henry C Cardwell, b Jan 8, 1844 in Chambers County, Al. He died March 28, 1933 in Coosa County, buried at Blue Springs. His wife was Mirea, address is Adella/Ordella, Al. Questions: Can anyone send me directions to the cemetary? Address also mentioned is Talladega Springs. Anyone know of this area? I had someone do a lookup for the cemetary, didn't find him. He was in CW, Can anyone help direct me to the proper place to get a CW marker for his grave. He has one graddaughter still living. I would love to be able to put a marker there. Thanks for any input. Debbie
