    1. [ALCOOSA] Roll Call...BIBBY & allied names..
    2. D J Peirce
    3. My main name in Coosa Co. is BIBBY.... They moved into Coosa around 1844-45. They are on the 1850 census, and again in 1860. In 1869-70 only one BIBBY fam. remained in Coosa. There were several daughters who remained there.....their married names: BRYANT, OWENS, ELLIS, & SMART. The son who remained was James B. BIBBY. Some names connected with them in this County: HOWARD, PATTERSON, FREEMAN, HODNETT, and more.... Doris....A Texan in Georgia; Still shaking the family tree, and dodging the nuts after 35+years! <Member IBSSG>

    1. [ALCOOSA] roll call
    2. Hi all, I am going to temporarily unsubscribe from my lists soon because I will be traveling and unable to check my email most of the time. I thought I would send my Surnames one more time before I go and see if I get any responses. If you see anything, please write me at: [email protected] I will eventually answer, but I sure don't want to miss anything!! Benjamin Deering HARRISON b.circa 1830 married Sarah Ann Baxley b. circa 1830 March, 1849 I believe that Benjamin's father was also a B. D. HARRISON and that Sarah's parents could be Samuel and Sophronia BAXLEY from the Marble Valley area. They were members of Union Springs Baptist Church. Benjamin and Sarah had 3 boys: Frank, Edmund, and William and a girl: Mary. Benjamin was a LT. in the Coosa Alabama Militia in 1850 and also became a Rev. at some time. They left Coosa County maybe in 1850 and he apparently died in a tent fire during a revival in Harrison, ARKANSAS in an unknown year. Sarah remarried in Jefferson County in about 1867. She is buried at Canaan Baptist Church in Morgan, Jefferson County, Alabama. Also! I have a Maudie LOCKE (b. circa 1895) from Coosa County. I do not have her parents at all. I only know that she married Joseph William (Joe Bill) YARBROUGH (from Birmingham not Coosa...I can't say if my YARBROUGHs are related to the Coosa YARBROUGHs, though I believe so somewhere). Hope someone is related out there! Thanks, Lois Anderson

    1. [ALCOOSA] John W. Lindsay & Susan C. Shelton
    2. My eternal brickwalls are: John W Lindsay born 1/24/1825 on the French Broad River, Sevier Co, TN, (Parents listed as James Lindsay and an unknown Pate on his death certificate) married Susan C. Shelton 9/1/1846 in Talladega Co, AL. John died 10/31/1914 in Orla, Laclede Co, MO. Susan was born 8/25/1830 (of unknown parents) in either TN or AL and died 6/7/1908 in Orla, Laclede Co, MO. John and Susan were in Coosa Co, AL in 1850 but did not get enumerated. In the 1850 census there is a James Lindsey and wife Nancy that I believe to be the parents of John W. There is also a Hue H. Lindsey in the 1850 census that I believe to be the brother of John. John and Susan named their second son Hugh, who was born in Coosa Co in 1848. A James Lindsey patented land in Coosa Co, AL on 4/15/1837 (W1/2SE, Sec 6, 23N, 19E & SENE, Sec 7, 23N, 19E) and on 11/2/1837 (E1/2SW, Sec 6, 23N,19E) and again on 10/6/1842(S1/2,Sec 31, 24N, 19E). A John Lindsey was very nearby as he purchased on 3/1/1858 (SWSE, Sec 2, 24N, 18E & NWNE, Sec 11, 24N, 18E) and again on 2/1/1860 (SESW, Sec 2, 24N, 18E). Hugh H. Lindsey was also close to James and John as he purchased his land 5/1/1852 (NENW & SWNW, Sec 27, 23N, 17E & SENW, Sec 22, 23N, 17E). There was also a James Shelton right next door to the John Lindsey's land. He purchased the E1/2SE, Sec 2, 24N, 18E. Perhaps James is Susan Shelton's father? There is a Fox Shelton mentioned in this same area on Shelton's Creek, who ran the Shelton Inn. Are James and Fox the same individual? I believe James Lindsey, father of John Lindsay, to be a descendant of David Lindsey and Mary Casey, through their son Thomas. I don't have any proof though. I understand there is a David Lindsey family genealogy collection in the B.B. Comer Library in Sylacauga, AL. Is anyone familiar with this collection? I would appreciate any input!!!! Rhiana

    1. [ALCOOSA] Thanks and More Help Needed
    2. Thank you to everyone who has sent me the marriage information for Allen Robinson & Caroline Holmes -- still not sure if her name was Holmes or Hughes. Now, I have another request. Does anyone know of marriage records for Coosa and Tallapoosa Co.'s after 1865? After Caroline Robinson died, Allen Robinson remarried. I have found him on the 1880 Census with wife, Annie, and I believe he was married after that. Caroline died in 1877, so his marriages would be after that date. Thanks, Nancy Bozeman Byrd

    1. [ALCOOSA] Lindsey, Lindsay, Shelton & Pate
    2. Searching for my James Lindsey born circa 1790 in possibly NC, married to an unknown Pate, their son John William Lindsay born January 24, 1825 on the French Broad River, Sevier Co, TN. John married Susan Caroline Shelton Sept 1, 1846 in Talledega Co, AL. They supposedly had their children in Coosa Co, AL but I cannot find them on the 1850 census. John died in Orla, Laclede Co, MO Oct 31, 1914. John had two brothers both names unknown and the Civil War divided the family. John was also a Mason as were his sons and his grandson-in-law, who was also a Lindsey from the John Lindsey line in Sevier Co, TN. Family lore says the John Lindsey of Sevier Co, TN was the brother of my brickwall: James Lindsey. John Lindsey, parents unknown was born before 1800, married Elizabeth Atchley and had children: John, James, Anna, Milla, Elizabeth and Thomas. The Lindsey's, Atchley's, Haggard's, Maples', Huskey's, among others all intermarried in Sevier Co & Jefferson CO, TN. A lot of the descendants ended up in MO in Laclede Co, living alongside my Lindsay's. They also intermarried with the other major Lindsey line in Sevier Co, TN belonging to Jesse Lindsey 1787-1807, son of William Lindsey 1730/31-1801 and wife Rachel Tallent of Anson Co, NC. Jesse Lindsey and wife Salina Ivey had children:William, Hannah, Jesse, Lydia, Sarah Jane, Rachel, John, Elia, Sherrod, Martha, Joel, Eli and Patsy. I am drowning in a sea filled with James' and John's! Any lifeline appreciated! Diana
