    1. [ALCOOSA] ROLL CALL -- RUTHERFORD, SMITH, KENDRICK
    2. Meredith Colquitt
    3. I am researching the RUTHERFORD and SMITH families of Coosa County, GA. Seeking more information on the ancestry and descendants of Samuel Franklin RUTHERFORD, who married Elizabeth POWER in Coosa County on 18 Apr 1852, and had several children including James Buchanon W.F. RUTHERFORD in North Carolina. James and brother Morris Lee ended up back in Coosa County by 1870, orphans, living with Anderson H. KENDRICK. Other siblings to James were Sarah Barbara, Robert W., and Mary Elizabeth. I don't know where they lived after their parents deaths' after the Civil War. James married Mary Elizabeth SMITH on 18 Jan 1879 in Coosa County, AL. Mary E. SMITH was born 15 May 1856 in Alabama, probably Coosa County, where she was found in the 1860 census living with parents Joseph B. SMITH, a steam mill keeper from Kentucky who was listed as single in the 1850 Coosa County census, and his wife "M", who is only listed in the census by initial and was born ca. 1834 in GA. Joseph and Mary also had two other children in the 1860 census, daughters born in 1858 and 1859 whose initials are illegible in the census. I cannot find the family in the 1880 census nor trace Joseph back to Kentucky -- totally stuck. Thanks, Meredith Colquitt [email protected]
