1. [ALCOOSA] RE: BETTIS Info
2. I'm not a BETTIS descendent, so the below might not even relate: On the 1900 census, Coosa Co., AL: Other members in household if you need this info. - let me know JB HORSLEY - listed as being b. in KY Martha A - listed as being b. in GA Polly - listed as being b. GA , ??(month), 1876, 24 yrs, 3 children b. 2 children living, wid. James (Polly son) listed b. TN, parents b. GA, b. Aug 1892, 7 yrs Nancy A. (Polly daug.) listed b. AL, parents b. GA, b. Mar 1897, 3 yrs We know how off the census records can be with dates & b. states. If James was the 1st child, then Polly would have been 16 yrs of age at birth, no too uncommon in those years for a female. The only info. I could find in any state for a Lee BETTIS is below - if this is your Lee, he would have been very, very young (13 yrs) to have sired James, plus this shows he was b. AL on the 1880 census and parents for James & Nancy shown as b. 1. [ALCOOSA] James Benjamin Bettis
2. Hello Coosa County! I am researching James (Jim) Benjamin Bettis born 8 August about 1890. His parents were: Lee Bettis and Polly Arnold. The only information I have on Lee Bettis is that he was a Creek or Chreokee indian traveling through Alabama when he met Polly. The had two children together: Jim and Nancy Bettis between 1888 and 1900. I have located Polly on the Coosa County 1900 Census living in the household of her step-father J. B. Horsley and her mother Martha Arnold Horsley. Polly is listed as being a widow. I would appreciate any leads, even small ones. Lee Bettis is my brick wall. Looking for the Bettis' Sandy

2. Bobbie [Speir] Jarvinen
3. Hi all, Yesterday, I signed up on some new lists and also had my usuals lists that I sent a query out on. All of a sudden I am getting at least two different viruses sent to me. Sometimes more than once from the same person, and we don't know each other as I make it a habit to contact the sender when possible. The other virus is the HaHaHa and I don't know who is sending it. I am not saying if you are on any of the lists above are knowingly passing a virus, but, just might be. Since most of my emails in the last 24 hrs or less has been list oriented, it leaves suspicion on my part. I know that attachments and viruses are not able to go through the lists, but, the emails I am getting are NOT through the list but DIRECT from the sender, a common feature of some viruses. Maybe we all should do and update on our virus scanners and a new virus check. 1. [ALCOOSA] Happy Kwanzaa
2. Greetings: << December 26th, marks the (FIRST) day of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is a uniquely African-American holiday that was conceived in the 1960s by Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga, a professor at the University of California. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the Kiswahili phrase Matunda Ya Kwanzaa which means "first fruits" and is used for seven days, each day designed around Nguzo Saba, or seven principles, based on African values. This non-religious holiday has gained popularity in communities, homes, and schools in America's major cities, as well as being celebrated throughout the African Diaspora - including Canada, the Caribbean, and parts of Africa and Europe. >> Click here: Kwanzaa (AOL - Click Underline) http://www.swagga.com/kwanzaa.htm (Others - Copy & Paste) Respectfully Yours, Chaps Group Administrator Private Groups http://Groups.aol.com/Kujichaguila - (African-American History) http://Groups.aol.com/Kujichaguila2 - (African-American Genealogy) _____________________________________________________ Kujichaguila2 - So that we will remember that it is we -- not other people, places, things or events -- that shape and determine our present and our futures. 1. [ALCOOSA] A Peaceful and Merry Xmas
2. A peaceful and merry Xmas Christmas Day, when Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, is supposed to be both festive and serene. It is festive because it marks the birth of a man who Christians believe to be the savior of mankind. He was the long-awaited Messiah whose mission was to liberate humanity from millennia of suffering and indignity. The day of his birth is a day of joy for Christians, who celebrate the coming of freedom. Christmas parties, ornately decorated Christmas trees, beautiful clothes and so forth are merely festive expressions of the spirit of Christmas. It is a serene occasion because Jesus Christ was born into a simple family who at the time had to travel away from home. The poor family could not afford normal lodgings. Instead, they had to spend the night in a deserted stable. There was no crib to lay the newly born baby in, so they had to make do with a manger that shepherds used to hold feed for their livestock. Religious services in churches on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day recreate that serenity with, among other things, beautiful Christmas carols. For Christians, the serenity of the Christmas service, as a community and family event, imbues peace. For the past several years, however, the serenity of Christmas, and consequently its aura of peace, has become a luxury that many communities and families in Indonesia cannot afford. The Christmas joint message conveyed by the (Catholic) Bishops' Conference of Indonesia and the (Protestant) Community of Churches in Indonesia this year, expressed "a very deep concern about the disturbed peace". On Christmas Eve last year, dozens of bombs exploded at a number of churches nationwide, killing at least 15 churchgoing civilians and seriously injuring 96 other innocent people. This year, Jakarta's police will deploy 14,000 personnel to guard churches on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In other places like Poso and Maluku, many people will not be able to go to church to attend the Christmas service for the simple reason that their churches no longer exist. For many Christian families there won't be a Christmas gathering at home because they have been left homeless. And they are not alone. Many Muslim communities and families in other places in Indonesia could not celebrate Idul Fitri properly last week. There are at least 1.3 million Indonesians in 19 provinces who have been uprooted from their communities and families because of ongoing violence and civil strife. Indeed, this kind of situation has been going on for more than three years and Indonesians seem to be getting used to it. Violence instead of peace has become the order of the day. Lawlessness has become something that is not unusual, and is often aggravated by the phenomenon, "rule by law", instead of the "rule of law". Worse, we have let things go on, damaging the very basic tenets of human dignity. We may still have the facade of a festive and serene Christmas this year in many places in Indonesia. However, if the meaning of Christmas is to incorporate the liberation of humanity from suffering and indignity, if Christmas is to imbue peace, then we all have to work together really hard to promote a more humane, civil society. We wish you all a peaceful and merry Christmas. _____________________________________________________ Kujichaguila - So that we will remember that it is we -- not other people, places, things or events -- that shape and determine our present and our futures.
