Hey guys, We came here to find our Coosa County families, not to fight over something we have NO control over. Please leave the politics to another mailing list. kemis ----- Original Message ----- From: MizAnne To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2002 9:05 PM Subject: [ALCOOSA] Reparations This is inflammatory material. This is inflammatory material. Such nearly killed a list in SC. It produces no good. Anne G.
When I first saw this foolishness on the web site I thought of unsubscribing. I feel time should not be taken up on the web for inflammatory matter. If it is to continue - unsubscribe me. The issue is settled, slavery was legal before 1865. All those people are dead. My ancestor was brought to America by force during the Amer. Rev. He was a Hessian soldier ripped from his home to serve the English government. The German Margrave sold his young men to the British. I also had another ancestor who indentured himself \ he had to because of the lack of opportunity in England. Thank heavens he came out of it and partook of the blessings of America. We hold no ill will toward anybody I do not bemoan and carry hatred for the British or anybody. Time moves on, it is time for people to thank God for the blessings they have, and live in the present. Stop trying to flagellate dead and pile up the money. Get off the soapbox and get to work. Try to make bridges. Messages like I see on this web only incite hard feelings. We are all Americans. If people cannot accept that fact and go on with their lives, then they should return to where they came from. Remember who it was that sold the Negroes to the Portugese, Spanish and English ship captains? If their tribal rulers had not cooperated, the ship captains could have never taken them off. If I could not stand America, I would go back to Germany and England where my ancestors were lured off. Anne G.
Listmembers, I agree whole heartedly with MizAnne! There is no place for that kind of talk on a genealogy website. We are not here for that purpose, rather we are on this forum to investigate, learn whatever we can about our ancestors, their children, their legacies to us as Americans. Injustice has been done, at one time or another, to any group you can name, but proliferating that wrong doing and adding to the resulting animosity benefits no one!! There are still areas in this country where just being from the South casts one in a less than favorable light. I don't dwell on that, but rather continue to be proud of who and what I am, and the people who contributed to making me that one unique person! If I worried about others' thoughts or motives, I could be one bitter older Southern lady! Life is too short for that!! Time to move on!! Well, I'll bite. This 44 year old, white woman, wants to ask a question? Why should reparations be paid to ANYONE other than the people who actually experienced whatever they experienced first hand? If there are any race, tribe or tongue alive today who experienced slavery (or other intolerable conditions) first hand, let me hear their situation and proof. Then I'll say, maybe you should receive reparations BUT I do not believe descendants of slaves, indenture servants, etc, etc, should receive a dime, a nickel or a penny. We, as a society, need to quit looking for the easy way out, get off our duffs and work together to make this world better. There's a man (and his al queda) out there ready to get us all .... no matter our color or our race. Wise up! Hello Listers/Possible Cousins, I am searching for information on my Great Great Grandmother, Tabitha E. Bowden b. 1875 in Coosa County Alabama. She at some point married a Morris. I only know that she must have married a Morris because on her marriage records to my Great Great Grandfather, Absolem/Abner B. Echols b. early 1870-73, she was Tabitha E. Morris. Furthermore, she had a son named Thomas Morris born approximately in the early 1890s. Thomas Morris was in the 1900 Census as a stepson to my Great Great Grandfather. I am hoping that by finding out where she either married, divorced or was widowed at will lead me to more information on my family line. I know she married my Great Great Grandfather in Troup County Georgia but I have checked all Census years and there is no record of any other family members in that County so they must have traveled to Troup for the marriage from another location and I can't seem to find where. Is there anyone out there that can help me? I would greatly appreciat! e any and all assistance in this matter. [email protected] (Wanda Knotts)
