Hi, I've just made a breakthrough to my Mary THOMAS who married Henry B. JOHNSON. She resides in Autauga County in 1840 when my Rev. Ancestor John THOMAS is enumerated with her on the Census of Rev. Soldiers in Alabama. There are Probate proceedings on her husband Henry B. JOHNSON in Autauga County. From these papers, I found the names of their children: David Johnson; Peyton Johnson; Joel P. Johnson, Emily Johnson; Adam G. Johnson; Gilbert H. Johnson. Here they are on the 1850 Census 1850 Coosa County, Alabama Census, Hatchet Creek District, page 89B, #38/38 JOHNSON, Joel P. 26 Farmer 500 AL Jane 21 AL Priscella 4 AL Abraham 1 AL Mary 47 GA Daniel 30 Farmer AL Emily 23 AL Adam 17 Farmer AL Gilbort 17 Farmer AL I had been reading the Joel P. as Jack P. and could not find him listed on an index anywhere but finally figured out that it was Joel P. and found the family; however, I can't find them in 1860. Does any one know anything about this JOHNSON family? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Willing to share my information for yours. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Irma J. Roy
Stella, if you or Sharon are poking around cemeteries or other sites around the Rockford area of Coosa County and run upon the name Nancy Ann McGough Beard Bullard I would be extremely interested. I was poking around there last year, even went to the Montgomery archives, but could not locate her. She seemed to just disappear after the 1870 census. Sion Bullard, her second husband, was granted 160 acres of land near Rockford in 1875, and, I think died prior to 1880. Nancy Ann was 26 years younger than Sion. Maybe she too died prior to 1880, but that doesn't seem logical. Nancy's first husband was Robert C. Beard who passed away before 1858.
List, I am new to the list and I am searching for a James Stephens, age 47 in the 1860 Coosa County census.Would like to contact any of the family. Thanks, Harold Stephens in Calif.
Sharon, I made a trip to Coosa County on Sunday afternoon. The old jail in Rockford, , is now a museum. They opened at 2-pm on Sunday for two hours. I found several books there, and the ladies are very interested in genealogy. During the week, the big nice courthouse will be open.I too, have a Willis-Posey marriage in Coosa County, in 1837. Thy lived in the Hatchett Creek area. I found several cemeteries. I went to the Sheriff's Dept. and looked at maps, and talked to them about the names of roads. Found them very friendly and they gave me a nice map of Coosa County there. I plan to go back when the courthouse is open. It is a nice scenic county.Beautiful rocks. Goodluck, Stella
Does anyone know where William Richards (in Coosa about 1820 or so) is buried? I had heard--years ago--that it was out behind a rental house in the woods; but, I am not familiar with the area and the person who told me is now deceased. Maybe there are some Richards researchers out there who can tell me. Ceya Minder, Monitor Richards Round Robin We share anything and everything on Richards in eastern and southeastern U.S.--even if they went south or west later.

John S. Lane & Mary (Smith--I think) were on the 1860 census in Coosa County with their sons, George Washington, Benjamin Griffin, and John. In 1870, the boys, with their younger brother James D., were all living with their Uncle & Aunt W. T. & Margaret Bachelor in Wetumpka. In subsequent years, the boys appeared on the census with the Bachelors as well as cousins Mary & John Daniel. I can only assume the deaths of both parents. George eventually moved to Texas; Benjamin stayed in Elmore County. I don't know what happened to the younger boys after 1880. Any information anyone can provide on the origins and demise of John & Mary, as well as the John and James would be much appreciated.

Hi all, Many thanks to those of you who sent me the Sheltons listed in Socapatoy Cemetary! I have another question if I may ask...I've been on the telephone with many of the Sheltons still living in Coosa Co trying to track some generations forward and one that I spoke to this morning mentioned a Coosa County History Book that had Sheltons in it. I asked her if it was Brewers History of Coosa as I know my Sheltons are mentioned in it and she said no it was a book done by the county and was a recent book done within the last two years. Is anyone familiar with this book? I would like to buy it or at least find out the names of the Sheltons mentioned it if at all possible! Many thanks for any reply! Diana
