I am looking for the parents of Anne Jane Wiggins (Abt 1826 in Alabama – Aft 1880 in Conecuh, AL). I have found her in the 1850 US Census with her husband John David Presley (Abt 1817 in AL – Aft 1893 in Conecuh, AL): 1850 Conecuh Co, AL Census 16 Nov 1850 Reel: M432-3 Pg: 380A Dwelling 718 Family 718 Presley, John, 33, M, Farmer,120, Ala (Son of Floyd?) Presley, Anne J, 23, F, Ala Presley, Nancy, 8, F, Ala Presley, Susan M., 8, F, Ala Presley, Wm. P., 4, M, Ala Presley, Malisa, 2, F, Ala A 16 year old, William Wiggins was living in the house with John and Anne in the 1860 census. I believe his mother is Sarah Wiggins (23 years old) from the 1850 Census – a William was listed as 7 in 1850 in the household of Sarah Wiggins. Perhaps Sarah and Anne are sisters-in-law through one of Anne’s brothers. Here is her husband’s land patent: Patentee: JOHN D PRESLEY Survey State: ALABAMA Acres: 162.2 Metes/Bounds: No Title Transfer Issue Date: 2/6/1911 Land Office: Montgomery Cancelled: No U.S. Reservations: No Mineral Reservations: No Authority: May 20, 1862: Homestead EntryOriginal (12 Stat. 392) Document Numbers Document Nr.: 02205 Misc. I found Anne Jane Presley buried next to her husband in Welcome Cemetery: Headstone: PRESLEY double John Presley no dates Jane Presley no dates WELCOME CEMETERY BEAT 8 CONECUH COUNTY Now, I have looked around for potential parents of Anne Jane Wiggins and found two potentials – Elihu Wiggins (b.14 Dec 1776 , Duplin-Sampson, North Carolina d. 3 Jul 1830 , Conecuh, Alabama) or Labon Wiggins (1804 , Sampson, North Carolina d. 1852 , Alabama). Labon’s father is Elihu. I am not sure of the source, but this is what I have about (Elisheu) Elihu’s family: Elihu Wiggins (b.14 Dec 1776 , Duplin-Sampson, North Carolina; m. 1801 , Conecuh, NC; d. 3 Jul 1830 , Conecuh, Alabama) Margaret Kinnard (b.Abt 1780 , Sampson, NC; d. 2 Oct 1842, Conecuh, Alabama) Children Kilby Wiggins (1 May 1802, NC) William Daniel Wiggins (27 Dec 1803, NC) Labon Wiggins (1804, NC) Kinnard David Wiggins (1810, NC) Sarah Wiggins (Abt 1812, AL) Margaret Wiggins (1814, AL) Leonard R. Wiggins (Abt 1826, AL) Daughter Wiggins (Abt 1826, AL) Here is Elihu’s land patent: Name: ELIHU WIGGINS Land Office: SPARTA Document Number: 44 Total Acres: 79.87 Signature: Yes Canceled Document: No Issue Date: June 25, 1825 Mineral Rights Reserved: No Metes and Bounds: No Statutory Reference: 3 Stat. 566 Multiple Warantee Names: No Act or Treaty: April 24, 1820 Multiple Patentee Names: No Entry Classification: Sale-Cash Entries Land Description: 1 E½NE ST STEPHENS No 5N 13E 1 In the 1830 US Census in Conecuh, AL, I found: Elihu Wiggins 1 male 5-10yrs old 1 male 10-15 1 male 15-20 2 males 20-30 2 females 5-10 2 females 15-20 1 female 40-50 Anne would only be abt 4 yrs old in 1830. In 1840 Census, Conecuh, AL, I couldn’t find Elihu, but I did find: Margaret Wiggins 1 male 20-30 1 female 15-20 1 female 50-60 Anne would only be abt 14 yrs old in 1840. In the 1850 Census in Conecuh, AL: Laban Wiggins 46 Martha 35 Mary 12 Margaret M 8 Martha E 2 Susan S. 4/12 of a yr. James 18 William E. 16 Jesse 14 Elijah E. 5 Joshua 10 Anne was 23 living with her husband in 1850. This makes her too old to be Martha’s daughter. Labon may have had a wife before Martha that could have been Anne’s mom. So I looked at the 1840 census. In 1840 Census, Conecuh, AL: Labon Wiggins 3 males <5 yrs old 2 males 5-10 1 male 30-40 1 female <5 1 female 15-20 1 female 20-30 This means that there was a female 15-20 in 1840 that we don’t know the name of and is too old to be Martha’s child. Anne was abt 14 yrs old in 1840. I have a picture of Anne taken in 1893 at the home of her son Ransom Presley in Conecuh Co., AL. Does anyone have a copy of “People and Places of Conecuh County, Alabama 1816-1860” authored by Conecuh County Historical Society (Conecuh Co., AL)? Could you look for Annie Jane and the family of Elihu and Labon Wiggins? Any help would be very appreciated!!
