    3. To All..... http://www.archives.state.al.us/counties/monroe.html "Monroe County was created by the Mississippi Territory governor, David Holmes, on 1815 June 29. It comprised all the Creek Indian lands ceded by the Treaty of Fort Jackson. It was reduced in size by the creation of the Alabama counties of Montgomery, Conecuh and Wilcox. It was named for Pres. James Monroe." ------------------- I am certain that you know the above facts.... but this gives even more weight to my 'theory' of Wm Witherington's service with the Mississippi Territory Militia in Alabama against the Creek Indians, sometime between 1813-1815. It was Gov. David Holmes that had signed Wm Witherington, Jr.'s Ensigns Certificate in July 1813. Bill
