Messer and Lydia California Johnson of Jackson County, Alabama. I just found this information on Ancestry.com. I believe Lydia may be the sister of my great grandfather, William Jack Johnson, who appears in the Jackson County Census of l860 as an 8 year old child. Lydia California is 4, and sister Elvy (Elvira)is 6. Their parents are Martin and Martha (Green) Johnson. These names fit my family genealogy except for Lydia California...did not know about her. There were two more sister's, Mary and Milton G.(Milta) Johnson, who were possibly born after the l860 Census. Martin Johnson was in the Civil War and died from the Measles. It is possible that Martha died also, as California was left an orphan and ended up being a bonded servant. The older children may have been in different homes also. Milta married Jeremiah Gilbert Bellomy, moved to Wood County, Texas. Mary married Tom Collins and Elvira/Elvy married Tom Nabors! . Don't know where they moved to.) Have pictures of William Jack Johnson and family.
