Excerpted from The Conecuh Record, Womans' Edition, Oct 24 1895.... S. L. WITHERINGTON Samuel L. Witherington was born in Conecuh County, Ala. His parents, W.L. Witherington and Nancy Johnson, were also natives of this county, and in the good old days of yore, well remembered among her most industrious, and highly respected citizens. It was from their early teachings that Sam (as he is familiarly called), laid the foundation that was in after years to make him a useful man and fit him for that sphere in life that he so gracefully adorns. Mr. Witherington was a few years ago engaged in the mercantile business, which he successfully terminated, to accept the office of clerk of the circuit court, by appointment from the Governor. He discharged the duties of this office so entirely to the satisfaction of the public that two years ago he became the candidate of the Democratic Party to succeed himself and was overwhelmingly elected to the white vote of the county. During the mean time, Mr. Witherington had thrust upon him the honor of becoming the chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee of the county.
