I know it went through here in Pike County, for I have found many references to it in deeds, etc. but have never seen it identified on any map. Found a note in the Commissioners Court Minutes (dated 1869) in which a number of citizens petitioned the Court to close "a certain portion of the old Sparta Road, which is no longer used or maintained". The Sparta Trail went through Monticello, county seat of Pike County at the time and then passed very near to what would later (in 1851) become the town of Brundidge, Ala. The Sparta Road PROBABLY passed through Covington County, but I surely would like to know its EXACT ROUTE......surely some old map shows it identified as the Sparta Road or Trail!!! Any information will be genuinely appreciated.
