Leon, I have some McFarlin family from Conecuh County. When my Great-Great Grandfather P. F. McFarlin died, my Great-Great-Grandmother Sarah (McLow) McFarlin married S. T. Quates and they had three children (George Washington, Nancy and Sarah J.). Quates was a shoe-maker, quite a small man, and one who had a "very rough temper." S. T. Quates had three children from a previous marriage (Ollie, Annie and a third child name unknown). I don't know if this helps you, but I thought I would offer it.
