John Nelson Mixon, s. of Nelson and Elizabeth McCall Mixon, was b. in Conecuh County, Ala., Jan. 21, 1845, d. Dec. 8, 1911. A Confederate soldier with Co. "D", 16th Ala. Inf., he was severely wounded at the Battle of Shiloh, 1862 and discharged. The wound caused him to limp the rest of his life. In Dec., 1866 he m. Josephine Wright, b. Octo. 5, 1844, d. Mar.27, 1927 at Peterman, Ala. Their children: Mary Sudie Mixon-b. 1868, m. Sanford Purnell Lula Caroline Mixon- b. 1869, m. May Kyser Minnie Lee Nelson- b. 1873, m. Bartow Sims John Nelson Mixon, Jr.-b.May 16, 1875
