Anyone on the list have any assistance, guidance, suggestions for me?????? Thanks, Bill King reply to: BillKing@houston.rr.com ______________________________________________ Searching for BUTLER COUNTY, AL marriage record of: John WITHERINGTON and Mary ELLIS Date of Marriage: 22 Sep 1824, as recorded in family records. John was the son of Wm Witherington, Jr. & Sarah Stanley Witherington of Conecuh County. Mary Ellis' parents are not known. Marriage was likely in Butler County, however, parents and other members of John Witherington's family were living in NE Conecuh County at the time. While I realize that the Butler County Court House had "burns" and lost records during the Civil War, I am still hoping that some record of their marriage is recorded somewhere there in your records. John Witherington and Josiah Ellis obtained land together in early Butler County/Conecuh County. Evidently the land straddled Duck Creek in SW Butler County & in NE Conecuh County (land description shown below). Josiah Ellis is thought to have been either the father (or a brother) of Mary Ellis, wife of John Witherington. Certificate # 35216 Dated January 13, 1840 to Josiah Ellis and John Witherington (of Conecuh Co, AL) Sale of Public Land - Cash Sale, Cahaba Land Office, AL SE Quarter, Section 30, T 8N, R 12E 160.7 Acres Butler/Conecuh County, AL <the land was in both counties, across Duck Creek> Signed by: Martin Van Buren, President, H. M. Garland, Recorder of Lands Any assistance in locating actual marriage record.... from County Records or from the records of Butler County ministers or JP's will be greatly appreciated. We have members of the family applying for DAR membership and this marriage record will be of great help to us. Thanks, Bill King BillKing@houston.rr.com
