Sarah Watson, parents of Thomas (b abt. 1800, Martin Co), Levi (m. Doratha Bryant Watson) and Elizabeth Dorothy (m. Ruben Staton Manning--went to Hernando, LA in mid 1800s); Thomas/ m. to Elizabeth Cherry, parents of Martha (b. abt 1830, Martin Co) who married James P. Stanley in either Hardeman, TN or Drew Co. AR> The early Howells are tracked back to Tyrell / Martin / Pitt /Edgecomb/ Halifax area. I have not yet figured out where Whitney Howell fit in to the Howells in the area in the late 1700s...seems to fit into the James / Jethro Howell clan by virtue of proximity, but there are no specific records to nail it. I have long felt that he might be related to some of those that lived in one of the other counties. My deceased grandmother is our link to the Howell line ...to my knowledge there are no living males. It is my understanding that that precludes us from being able to do the genetic testing ... sure wish it could accommodate females.
