The VA grave marker has just been received from the VA by Cope Funeral Home in Evergreen, AL. With the aid of Ted Urquhart of the Alabama Cemetery Preservation Society, we intend to conduct a fitting ceremony in late October for the placement of the Witherington War of 1812 grave marker provided us by the Veterans Affairs folks and for the formal recognition of the old long abandoned cemetery in NE Conecuh County. Linda, would you be so kind as to mail me the appropriate application forms so that we might obtain the War of 1812 marker so that Cope can attach it to the VA grave marker now in his posession. And in addition, who do I contact within your organization to invite for your group's participation in the fall event in Conecuh County, AL? Would it be possible for your group to work with Ted Urquhart in preparation and planning for the event? Ted is already arranging for an appropriate "Honor Guard" in period dress for us. Linda, it is our intention to make this event a WITHERINGTON FAMILY REUNION affair, as well..... with a 'box lunch dinner' being held on the cemetery grounds. Your participation would be welcomed and is encouraged!!!! I think they come in a couple of sizes, I think one is about 3 1/2 inches across maybe. I have a list of suppliers and I will get sizes and prices. They have the same thing for the War of 1812 graves, but it is through the United States Daughters of 1812. That person is Linda Shabo in Auburn. I can also get that info tomorrow, they all use the same suppliers. One thing we will hae to have is documented proof that William Sr. is buried there or else wthey will not give us permission to use the DAR grave marker. However they do have a commemorative marker, more like an histoic marker can be used saying the grave location is unknown, but believed to be here and then as much as you want to say or can afford to say about the man.
