Ira Willis Griggers, Jr., age 76, of uriah and formerly of Evergreen, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2004, at his home. He was born July 5, 1928, in Conecuh County. He was a Seaman in the Merchant marines. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cope Funeral Home with the Rev. James (Jim) Eldon Griggers officiating. Burial was in magnolia Cemetery, Cope Funeral Home directing. Survivors include his wife, Myrtice Louise Griggers, Uriah; three sons, James (Jim) Eldon Griggers, Austria, Bill Griggers, Milton, Fla. and Donnie Griggers, Kennesaw, Ga.; one daughter, Sheila Griggers, Prattville; one brother, James Donald Griggers, Pensacola, Fla.; four stepchildren, Tom, William and Jason Thomas and Jeanie Crenshaw, all of Bay Minette; 27 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. AVA SALTER THAMES Ava Salter Thames age 91, a life long resident of Burnt Corn, passed away Wednesday, August 18.2004 at Englewood Health Care in Monroeville. Mrs. Thames was a homemaker and was well known for all of her homemaking skills including sewing, making quilts, her home cooking and her very special vegetable gardens. She was a member of the Ramah Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam L. Thames. Funeral services were held Friday, August 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Ramah Baptist Church in Burnt Corn with the Rev. William Bodiford officiating. Burial was in he church cemetery, Johnson Funeral Home of Monroeville directing. Survivors include one son, Wayne Thames, Burnt Corn; four daughters, Ann Cook, Lyeffion, Nell Burt, Burnt Corn, Janice Brown and Barbara Epting, both of Pensacola, Fla.; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. JAMES LOUIS DEES, SR. James Louis Dees, Sr., age 83, of Atmore passed away Thursday, August 19, 2004, at The Meadows in Atmore. Mrs. Dees was a native of Conecuh County and was a former resident of Repton, where he had owned a hardware general store for many years. He was a member of the Repton United Methodist Church and attended Excel Assembly of God Church in Excel. He was a master mason and was a member of Repton Masonic Lodge. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War ll. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Grant Dees. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 22, 2004, at 4:20 p.m. from the Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. William Mears officiating. Burial was in the Repton Cemetery, Monroe Chapel Funeral Home of Monroeville directing.
