    3. Marriage Records (1866-1869) Conecuh County, Alabama http://www.trackingyourroots.com/data/marriage.htm Submitted for Tracking Your Roots by Don Mitchell, treemkrs@ix.netcom.com, November 1997. Unless followed by an asterisk (*) all dates reflect the actual date of the marriage. An "*" is used to indicate that the actual date of marriage was not recorded and that the date used is the date that the marriage license was applied for. There were several entries in the marriage books that were impossible to read, no attempt was made to include them on this list. There were several other entries where some letters in the name were discernable so a best guess was made as to the spelling of the name. So be careful, check for all possible spellings! Do not accept this document as being 100% correct! Adams, John Q. to Horton, Carolyn - Apr 28, 1867 Alexander, James to Brown, Mary J. - Feb 18, 1869 Anderson, D. 3. Hello: I might be able to help you a little on your Johnsons. Your group, I believe, belonged to James or Jimmy Johnson. He was a brother to my grandfather, William Wesley "Bill" Johnson of Butler Co. Some of your group went to Grand Bay area of Mobile Co. Need more information to be sure. Please give me a little more information so I can check through my records. Gertrude J. Stephens

    1. Melissa (King) Witherington, age 75, shown on 1880 Conecuh County Census, Gravilla Beat
    2. Bill King
    3. NEW 1880 CENSUS INFO ....... Witherington Surname name was spelled WELLINGTON on the Mormon Family Search site, thus I have never had this census record before this time.... 1880 Conecuh County, AL Census, Gravilla Beat **Melissa WITHERINGTON Self W Female W 75 SC Farming SC SC <nee King> Frances E. YATES (Frank) GSon S Male W 26 AL Managing Farm AL AL Emily L. YATES Dau W Female W 45 AL House Keeping SC SC <nee Witherington> Martha J. YATES GDau S Female W 23 AL At Home AL AL Lucy I. YATES GDau S Female W 21 AL At Home AL AL **Note 1: Melissa's name was misspelled 'Melline Wellington' on the Census Record of the Family Search site. Melissa King was the wife of Daniel Witherington of Conecuh County, AL. **Note 2: Emily L. Yates was Emily Lenorah Witherington, wife of Green Jefferson Yates, who died during the Civil War. She was the daughter of Daniel E. Witherington & Melissa King. Note: I'm pleased to find this 'last' census record showing Melissa King Witherington at age 75; with her daughter's family - Emily Lenorah Witherington Yates living in the home with her. Melissa died 16 Jun 1880, shortly after the census was taken. I wonder if Emily inherited the homeplace when Melissa died? Melissa King Witherington is buried with Daniel E. Witherington at Witherington Cemetery, near China. Could not find anything on 1900 census for Emily Yates or for her son, Frances E. Yates (shown on above census). FRANK EDWARD YATES: However, there is a F. L. Yates (age 45/AL, born 1855) showing in 1900/ Township # 6, Conecuh. The dates of birth for Frances E. (FRANK) and for this F. L. are pretty close!!! F.L Yates' wife was "N.E., aged 22, married 5 years (probably 2nd wife) and son Newton Yates, age 15/born Aug 1884. He also had a dau, Claudia O. Yates aged 11/born 1888. (NANCY ELIZABETH "Nannie" SALTER was the second wife of Frank Yates.) Frank E. Yates is buried at Fairfield Cemetery. <Is Fairfield Cem in Conecuh??> Bill King 281-493-6767 BillKing@houston.rr.com

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4R.2ADE/1626.1 Message Board Post: In Marriages, Book D--1901-1907, there's a W.F. PARSONS who married a Lilly Smith on 13 Sep 1902 by N.G. Baggett in Conecuh. In the Conecuh County Heritage Book, under the Thomas Jance Mosely Family segment on page 165, there's an excerpt about the Samuel Nelson Parsons family--Sam Nelson married Sarah Mosely--Same was born in Dallas Co., AL Jan. 1850--son of Nelson Parsons, and wife: Elizabeth Dailey Parsons--Same was raised in the Chestnut community of Monroe County. There is another reference to PARSONS on page 104 under the John & Temperance Deen GILMORE family as well...a Daisy PARSONS married into that family:Leonard Skipper GILMORE. There would perhaps be more in the census records, but I don't have access to everything today--will check to see if we have a PARSONS vertical file.

    1. John Witherington in Butler/Conecuh County, AL
    2. Bill King
    3. Thanks B'nard..... This bit of new info from you on the location of Range 12, TS 8, sec. 30 really helps me understand better exactly where it was that John Witherington and Joel Ellis took land in 1840...... then was located in Butler County; but when the boundaries later changed, this land became a part of Conecuh County. If this land is West of Sepulga River, it would then not be very far from where his father, William Witherington, Jr. lived near Fork Sepulga in Conecuh County. Other (1840) residents of the Fork Sepulga area were: PAGE, DEAN, WARD. Again, thanks for your help B'nard!!!! Bill King For the Witherington researchers..... John Witherington & Mary Ellis migrated from Conecuh Co, AL to Ouachita/Calhoun Co, AR about 1847.... shortly after he obtained the above land (then) in Butler County. ----- Original Message ----- From: "georgeb" <georgeb@alaweb.com> To: <BillKing@houston.rr.com> Cc: <ALBUTLER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 13, 2005 12:13 PM Subject: Witheringtons Vic's land book shows John Witherington owned land at Range 12, TS8, sec. 30.(1840) This plot by Butler County map of 1836 would be in Butler two sections West of the Sepulga. By the date being 1840, this puts the sections in Conecuh County. Hope this helps, B'nard
