Surnames: Havens, Green Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4R.2ADE/1289.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I was actually researching a Mary Robertson who married a Green. It was then discovered she was married to a Havens prior to her marriage to John Green. She had Havens children, when she married Mr Green. I tried to look at the 1840 census and see what families were there that were named Havens and I found Joseph. Then in 1850, there are no Havens and the Havens children are living with their Green step-father and the census taker listed them with a last name of Green. The 1860 census tells me that they are in Baldwin county, listed as Hannens (poor handwriting). Mary had remarried a Mr. Glover (in Mobile), had two more children and then Mr. Glover died in the Civil War, Mary died shortly after him in Mobile. Anyway...one obit for one of the Havens kids states that she was born in Evergreen, and so does one of the Green kids. I was grasping at straws, assuming that the only Havens man in Conecuh in 1840 was their father. All of the Haven's children's ages do fit the 1840 ce! nsus of Joseph's household. Census records state that the Havens father was born in AL, and MS. More times than not it states MS. Once it even states France? I'm inclined to think he was born in MS and was connected to your Havens in some way. Thanks for responding... Marla

Surnames: Griffin/Freeman/Jones/Means Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4R.2ADE/1265.1.1 Message Board Post: I am researching Millard Randolph Griffin who may have also been called James Millard Griffin born about 1858 in Barbour County. His youngest son, Benjamin Clifton Griffin left behind a delayed birth certificate stating that his father was born in Evergreen, Conecuh County, AL. It's strange that you mention Jones because a daughter-in-law of Millard's only girl, Mattie Lou, said that the only name she ever really heard mentioned was that Millard would talk about old Jones. The only thing that fits the family story is that Millard's mother died young, his father never returned from the war and presumably he was raised by relatives. He was located in Decatur, Morgan County, from 1880 to 1925. I'm pretty sure that his wife Sarah Jane Freeman was related to the Jones' family. If Millard or James was raised by relatives, he may have been sent to Conecuh and then from there moved to Morgan County. There are a number of Jones' there. Sandy hair or rusty hair is common in t! his family so much so that "Rusty" was a nickname for one of Millard's sons and grandsons. So far, our genealogy stops with Millard although I suspect that his parents were James B. Griffin and Sarah Justice (see 1860 census for Barbour County, Midway).

We talked about the genealogy of the Fountains. I am a descendant of the Fountains. June was a very nice person and did a wonderful job on the book, "THE FLOW OF THE FOUNTAINS", which was finished by her husband and sister after June passed away. Her sister did a beautiful job of putting the book together. Unless things have changed since last year, the book is out of print. I had a cousin who wanted one but Janelle told me it was out of print. She did give me permission to copy it which I have not done as of this date. I do want to clear up one thing......June's son (not daughter) and her daughter-in-law, and their daughter, age 17, and their 15 year old twin sons were all killed in a tornado that hit Jarrell, Texas in 1997. It was very tragic for the Igo family. June talked to me at length about it and was very sadden. If anyone needs info out of this book, I will be glad to send it to them.....I do believe ! there is another book for the Jones family.BUT there are numerous Jones in the Fountain book. Susie

    3. Hi John: Thank you for getting in touch. You are right. Haven't worked in that family in a while and sometimes mylame brain doesn't remember. My records are in stacks and stacks trying to keep them safe through hurricanes. Would love to have more to update the Johnson records. I published the first Johnson book way back about 1972 and then a small update later. Now needs another. At the time, I didn't seem to be able to locate any of Amanda Johnson Stokes' family. Papa had a good memory and knew the names of a couple of the group who went to Texas. I wrote and wrote - and that is how I found out about those of Amanda's family that went to the same area. Through Amanda Johnson Stokes (& my father), we have Salter ancestry from SC, through GA into Conecuh Co AL. Best wishes, Gertrude
