2. Hey Everyone, The names I got today I will be getting out as soon as they all typed up. Be tonight or in the am. I am still gonna need to go back and take a look at the census and etc. To everyone who did not get the names in time to me, heres the deal. I will be doing my best to go once a week to the genealogy library. I would like you before sending the names to me to try and see what you can find and as much as you can fine first. Send as much as you can to me about your family member. I have acess to all of Alabama. A good part of GA., NC., VA., SC. Other States are availiable to me there but may not be a whole lot. But some of all I seen today. Census I can get up to 1930. And mostly Alabama. I was not able to get to check all the census states today for sure. When sending information you would like me to look up please add in the subject line queries so that I know. 1. [ALCONECU] Conecuh County, AL Old Witherington Cemetery Trip Scheduled May 6th
2. Bill/Lynn King
3. Subject: Old WITHERINGTON Cemetery near the Sepulga River in Conecuh County, AL Cemetery Trip Scheduled for May 6th _______________________________ Hello All, The trip to Conecuh County, AL and the WITHERINGTON gathering to go out to the old cemetery (north of Evergreen) has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th. We are hoping to have a large group of Witherington descendants on hand and plan to take a picnic lunch in with us so that we can all enjoy the cemetery visit. Wayne & Diane King (my brother & sister-in-law from Pineville, LA) will be coming with Lynn and me. Eugenia & Dan Brown are scheduling the visit with a Mr. Ward who controls access to the property. There are also WARD graves in this cemetery, some reportedly with gravestones. The earliest Witherington graves had been marked with wooden "houses" above the graves. I understand that all the wooden markers are now gone, destroyed by fires thru the years. It is believed that this is the location of the graves of William Witherington, Jr. (1773-1837) and Sarah 'Sally' Stanley (1777-1845). In addition, it 'could' also be the site of the grave of William Witherington, Sr. (1740-1819). To date, however, we have seen no actual proof of the actual place of death of "Sr.", but family tales indicate that he possibly made the journey from Feliciana Parish, LA to Conecuh County, AL with his son in 1819. On your Conecuh County maps, the location of this old cemetery is: Section 10, T.7N, R.11E. It is just south of where the East & West Sepulga Rivers run together, NE of Cooks Crossroads, off Hwy 83. Please let Eugenia or me know if you plan to join us, so that transportation in to the cemetery site can be arranged. A time and meeting place near Evergreen will be arranged for Tuesday morning, May 6th, so that we might all meet and share a cup of coffee 'before' the trip back into the deep woods to the cemetery. Please pass the word along to your family members and to other WITHERINGTON descendants on your list and invite them to join us for this special event. Hope to see you all on Tuesday, May 6th! Please let us hear from you if you think you might be able to attend and share the WITHERINGTON FELLOWSHIP and RESEARCH TRIP!!!! 1. [ALCONECU] Handy C. Wood b. 1804 NC, reside Conecuh Co. by 1840
2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4R.2ADE/986 Message Board Post: Does anyone have information that might match this gentleman or run across him in your research? Handy C. Wood b. abt 1804 NC (this is NOT the Handy Wood that married Julia Jane Cook and remained in Orange/Alamance Co., NC) By 1840 census he is Conecuh Co. AL and marries Nancy (Calhoun?) 1843, date and maiden name unverified. This may have been a second marriage for Handy as he has children born between 1834 and 1843. The date may have been a transposition, too. Handy and Nancy are in Ouachita later Nevada County, AR by abt 1847. Three of their children married in Clark Co. Handy may have had siblings named William or Washington, perhaps William Washington. There is a head of household on the 1840 census in Conecuh Co. by each name. I believe his father may be the William listed. There is in that household male and female of the right age to be his parents and only one residence, that of Dugal Calhoun, is between him and Handy. This could also be a sibling's household in which the parents and younger siblings are resident. Hard to tell from the 1840, eh? Washington is only a few doors removed and the right age to be a sibling. None is on the 1850 Conecuh Co. census, but a William Wood and his family with wife and first several children born in AL is in Ouachita Co AR in 1850, having arrived about the same time as Handy and Nancy given the dates of their children's births in AR. Several of their children bear the same names. Handy's children include: Nancy Jane Henry C. Handy C. William W. John G. Thomas Jefferson (my great grandfather) b 1851, AR Eli James Anderson or Andrew Eliza? Name not verified and unreadable on one census George Mary Ann Here's hoping we can knock down some walls today. Many thanks in advance. Susan.

2. I'd like to add a few words to your dialog about Amison. I am descended from Clarrissa Amerson, b abt 1816 and husband Arthur R. Cook. Arthur had a brother named Green Cook. So, despite name being spelled differently, they are possibly related. There is an Amerson/Amison/Amason website at DESCENDANTS OF URIAH AMASON and wife, BETHANY Perhaps at some point you can tie into that line of ancestors.
