If you have connections to these families, please let me know. Thanks.

Sally 10 Mattie 6 John 3 Emily 1 ---------------- The John HALL in the censuses above was my g-gf. Hoping to find out if he might have been related to the ROBERTSONS with whom he lived, I've decided to try to gather some information on them. John J. Hall's parents and siblings are unknown. There is more than one family story about the mystery of his birth and upbringing. One story my mother was told was that her grandfather was found when he was a newborn baby lying beside the road and raised by the man who found him. Mother believes there is more to the story. According to Margarette HALL Wood in her book JOHN J.HALL, HIS DESCENDANTS, AND OTHER HALLS OF ALABAMA, "John Hall, as an infant, was taken into the home of John "Bud" ROBINSON/ROBERTSON and his wife [Lucinda?], who reared him along with their own children on a farm near Sepulga in Conecuh Co., Ala." The book goes on to say John Hall was found beside the road by John ROBINSON and his friend JOHN ANDERSON. Margarette questions why John Robinson named the boy John J. HALL, since he already had a son named John J. ROBINSON. I personally believe this "found beside the road" story was made up by John Robinson (probably to satisfy the curiosity of his children and others), but I believe John J. HALL was my g-gf's real name. Please let me know if you are related or connected to these Robertsons or if you have ANY info at all about them. I'm hoping to discover a HALL-ROBERTSON connection, although I doubt I'll ever learn who John Hall's parents were. I would love to learn about his ROBERTSON family anyway. Thanks for reading a long story, made short. Cheryll

K 14th Ala. Reg., at Louina, Ala, in which I enlisted and went to Auburn, Alabama and was mustered into service on August 1, 1861. We moved by railroad via Atlanta, Georgia, there I got my arm broken. When I arrived at Camp Jackson, Huntsville, Alabama, I was hospitalized on account of my broken arm, and later I had the measles. I knew the following soldiers in my Co., R.A. Kidd, W.M. Clifton, Thomas Judge, and I was discharged Dec 1st. 1861, by being examined by Dr. Taylor, Surgeon of Regiment. Then I came home via, Atlanta, Georgia, got off of the train at Cusseta, Alabama. When I arrived at my home, my mother, being a widow woman, so in later years, I was appointed Orderly Sargent, by Enrolling Officer DeOrmon, to transfer conscripts, from Wesobulga to Talladega, Alabama, so after several trips, I volunteered to the 17th. From Selma we went to Mobile by boat. I was discharged at Mobile, Alabama. I served under Capt. Hester for five months, discharged Feb 6th, 1865. I returned home. I married Mary E. Pursley in 1865 and lived with her until she died. Then I married Mary M. Hudgins, May 23rd, 1884. I joined Wesobulga Masonic Lodge about 1865. Wesobulga Lodge went defunk and then I was a Charter Member of Weathers Lodge No 390 of Cragford, Alabama, of which I am a member now. 1. Re: [ALCONECU] Re: MIXON
    2. But... Your problems come in with the census people. When they go to a house they will ask what your last name is. If the person says Mixen, they will most likely write Mixon. So with that fact there can be several ways a person may write they're last names. Ex: My Brick wall is Lihue Hooks. I found him spelled almost every way imagionable. I would think the grave would be the correct way Wrong. I the 1920 census he wrote his own name. He spelled it Lihue. But, again on something else he has it spelled Elihue. And on his grave it again is spelled different: Lie Hugh. Enough to make a person go insane. lol So because someone spells it one way do not be surprised if you find it several other ways. Johnson is another of our family names. I have found same people with the spelling Johnson, Johnston and Johnstone. Best way I find is just to search using all spellings. These people had limited education. So it just depened on the education of the census person and others as to how we may find it. Just a little FYI hope it helps. Joyce
