Surnames: Deer, Stephens Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4R.2ADE/1596 Message Board Post: I am needing any information on my Deer and Stephens family on Conecuh Co. I am desperatly searching for my grandmothers birth mother! My grandmothers name was Agnes Deer, her father was Frank/Franklin Deer he was first married to a ? Stephens! This would be my grandmothers birth mother. His second wife was Emmie? and they had several children. I know that my grandmothers mother died when my grandmother was a little girl. My grandmother was born in 1895-96 in Alabama though she always said she was born in Bonifay Fl. all the census records I have been able to find say she was born in Alabama! I have found my grandmother and her brother Homer Deer ( her only full brother) in the 1900 Conecuh Co. census (old Town.) The head of household is a Sallie Stephens, and living with her is her sister Samantha Stephens, and her Niece and Nephew my grandmother Agnes Deer and her brother Homer Deer. My grandmother is mentioned as 6 yrs. old! Now I am wondering if this Samantha Stephens is their mother??? Need to know if anyone is related to this family or can do more research like death record or marriage record of a Frank Deer and a Samantha Stephens? Warm Regards, Martha mlynbroyles@hotmail.com

If we mistaken not his is a Georgian by birth and came to this county over 50 years, he was married three times, his last wife was a sister of Ex-Commissioner BRANTLY of Mill Beat. Faithful and true in the relation of life kind to all: now that he is gone a vacuum is left in the hearts of his friends a vacant chair sits in its accustomed place, and a deep sorrow dwells in the near and dear relation of the home circle. Full of honors and years he had lived and loved with the cares and burdens of this life until only a few days they became too much for him and he laid them down and is now at rest. Marriage: Marriage of Mr. N. S. COOK, and MISS ISABELL LITTLE. The many fiends of MISS ISABELL LITTLE who has been residing in this county for several past well be interested to learn of her marriage at this place on the 9th day of February to MR. N. S. COOK of Olivia, Ala. The ceremony was performed at the residence of MRS. LITTLE, by REV. J. A. BONDS of Monroe, Co., Ala. The affair was a quiet one, only the near relatives being present at the nuptials. The bride is beloved for her gentleness and amenability by a large circle of admirers and friends in this county and vicinity, was on of the leading lights in society and one of Olivia's fairest lilies. The groom, a farmer resident of this place and Greenville, is equally esteemed for his true manliness and worth; is a gentleman of rare accomplishments, fine business capacity, though now settling on a farm near Olivia, where he has prepared a beautiful home to carry his lovely and much esteemed wife, for which place they departed in the 10th of February. In congratulating MR. COOK on his good fortune in securing such an amiable and lovely lady, we can but regret that the loss is ours. We join their many friends in wishing them a long serenely happy married life. We trust that each succeeding year will find them happier that the one before. E.H. C. The name was taken from a county name in the Orkney Islands of Scotland. The current name for the same county is Ross, I believe. The misspellings in census records, etc. has made research difficult. Legend states that the original brothers fled the King of England by settling in upper Scotland, then on to N.C. and Canada. They may have originally held the surname DOUGLAS, as most Cromartie graves in the Orkney Islands bear the bleeding heart, the crest of the Douglas clan.

Does anyone know the names of the parents of Sarah A. Wright who married Allen Page, son of Jacob Page? Allen's brother Curtis married Mary J. Wright. Were Mary and Sarah sisters? I just received a copy of a story from --The History of Conecuh County, Alabama__, written by Rev. B. F. Riley. Mr. John Wright, Sr., and Allen Page were attacked and robbed on their way to Claiborne. Mr. Page was murdered. Was this John Wright the father of Mary J. and Sarah? Could this be John W. Wright, Sr., who married Eliza A. Solomon? This couple lived in Old Texas, Al. The robbery and murder took place in Ft. Speulga. I would be interested in any information about these people. Thank you.
