It has never been a plantation. The Alexander's owned a general merchandise store downtown where the old city hall once was, corner of 1st and main. When they passed away the single story house was sold to the Bishop's who immediately began expansion. When 3rd floor was being done the house would shake and they refused to continue until fixed.
