    3. 1st Annual Wedding Reunion at the Tishomingo County Archives & History Museum Saturday, September 3, 2005 Did you tie the knot in Iuka, Mississippi? Do you know someone who did? At one period in history, Tishomingo County, Mississippi, was referred to as the "Marriage Capital of the South." During this time, surrounding states had a three-day waiting period for a marriage license. The State of Mississippi had no such law; therefore, citizens of Tennessee and Alabama would drive to Iuka and be married in the courthouse. Return to the courthouse with your families to remember where your lives began together. A Mass Re-Commitment Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. followed by a reception for all couples. Single ceremonies will be available throughout the day. All couples who pre-register will receive a Certificate of Marriage and a photo to commemorate their re-commitment. This will not be a legal document, and no proof of age will be required. Pre-registration is required by August 26, 2005. Cost is $15 per couple (includes certificate, photo, and reception.) For more information, contact TCAHM, 203 E. Quitman Street, P.O. Box 273, Iuka, MS 38852. You may also call (662) 423-3500 or e-mail tcarchives@nadata.net.
