    3. In addition to the suggestion about the obituaries, here's this: In the 1910 Census, Oscar Corsbia (35)(AL, AL, MS), and minnine L. (29)(AL, AL, AL) were living in Allsboro, Colbert Co., AL with Addie (13), Mary E. (11), Ernest G.?C? (5), Samuel (1 7/12), and Samuel L. (69), widowed (AL, NC, TN). Oscar and Minnie had been married 14 years. Minnie was the mother of 4 children, 3 living. They lived on the Cherokee & Alabama Pike. REF: T-624, R-8, p. 114B. You might want to try and look at this yourself at Ancestry-Plus or Heritage Quest in your local library. I cannot read the relationship of Samuel L. to the family, but we might think he was the father. (You'd think father would be easy enough to interpret!) I'd also try 1900, 1920, 1930, etc. Knowing this, try to get their marriage certificate, about 1895/6. (Minnie is a common nickname for Mary in this time period. It was the nickname of my gr-grandmother Mary!) This should tell you their parents names and perhaps their birth places. Also there is a James J. Corsbie (b 1880, AL), and a Sam W. Corsbie (b.1873, AL) living in Allsboro in the 1920 Cenus. You might try to see what you learn from thse families., as Oscar's father may well be a Samuel. Good luck! 3. I have a question. I am seeing many post about the differences between the new Family Tree Maker 2005 (www.ftm2005.com) and the Legacy Family Tree Program. I have used the PAF and ftm7.0 before and have looked in most of the reviews of all the Family Tree progams out there, from all this I have seen that FTM2005 and Legacy are the top 2 programs out there. I am leaning towards the FTM 2005 since it is the most popular but some Legacy folks have made some good points. Basically I am torn between which one to get and am looking for any good solid advice. You can email me off list at familyhunter@myresearchers.com if you want. Thanks in advance.

    3. The Wayne County Historical Society of Wayne County, Tennessee will hold their annual "History Fair" tomorrow, Saturday, July 10th, 2004 at Collinwood School, Collinwood, Tennessee. The History Fair starts at 9:00 A.M. and will continue until about 3:00 or 4:00 P.M. Dear Cuzons: Each year the Wayne County Historical Society does a great job and each of us that attend are able to find those persons that are researching some of the same families that we research. If you had ancestors that were/are in Wayne County, Tennessee you should try your best to attend. I plan to be there and will be looking for others that research the following surnames: Cooper, Balentine, Koonce, Sinclair, Roach, Hill, Duncan, Fowler, South, Randolph, Milford, Rodgers/Rogers/Rodjers, Nolan/Nolen/Noland, Sharp, Woods/Wood, Whitten, Howell, Wesson, Poindexter, Witherspoon, Horton, Ayers, Gillis, Phillips, Lee/Leigh, McKelvey, Faires/Farris, Paulk, Palmer, Lamb, Duckett, Neal, Irons, O'Kelley, Valentine, Young, Cathey, Ghrigsby and other connecting families. Stop by my table and "chat a spell". My wife is related to half of the folks in Wayne County. SteveCooper Cloverdale, Alabama STEVECOOPER75@COMCAST.NET

    1. New book, UNIONISTS OF THE WARRIOR MOUNTAINS OF ALABAMA
    2. Joel Mize
    3. Hello, I'm seeking correspondence with Colbert County persons who had ancestors that were Alabama Unionists during the Civil War. Do you have a family story that hasn't been told or a period family photo that you'd like to see in print ? Looking for family of known soldiers, Union League or Peace Society, underground resistance members, etc. During May, I published the first book in a series entitled, UNIONISTS OF THE WARRIOR MOUNTAINS OF ALABAMA (it featured Marion County AL events/stories & cemetery atlas of CW period, along with first published photo of 1st Alabama Cavalry in ca 1900 reunion). It is 192 pp, 8.5 x 11" w/ color maps, photos and interesting content for Alabama genealogists and historians. The second in the series is due for publishing in late September or October. It will feature guerrella warfare on the homefront stories of Lauderdale, Lawrence, and Limestone counties (a la the stories published by Wm L. McDonald, Dr. Maurice C. "Wade" Pruitt, et.al.; including a Cherokee/Yucci Indian feature section); together with presentation of family data for the known UNIONISTS across Northern Alabama. Later is in the series will be a volume focused upon Colbert/Franklin & Tishomingo Co MS (including Chickasaw Indian background). Look forward to hearing from some of you. Joel Mize --- [1st cousin to Sarah Putnam Vorhees of Sheffield/Muscle Shoals; brother to Clay Mize of Florence; former neighbor/acquaintence with Minister Edsel Burleson of Muscle Shoals; kin to Mildred Kimbrough, Betty Tidwell Williams & others of Colbert County]

    2. Steve Cooper
    3. I need information on a THOMAS HOWELL (or family) born about 1910, probably in Kentucky or Alabama. I know that his family was in Kentucky in the early 1900's. He might have been born in Lauderdale County, Alabama, as the family was there earlier and then back there after the death of his father in 1912. Father: William T. (alias TEB) Howell buried probably Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1912. Mother: Mary Wesson buried unknown. Last known as living in D.C. area in 1944. I have information from an obit. of his brother Terry Howell (Florence, Alabama) that says Thomas was living in Washington, D.C., when Terry Howell died in 1944. His mother Mary Wesson Howell also is listed in D.C. in 1944. Thomas Howell married Erin Lane of Colbert County, Alabama, date unknown. In 1956, upon the death of both of Erin's parents, she is listed as living in Medina County, Texas. I don't know if Thomas Howell was living at that time or not. From about 1960-1967, Erin Lane Howell is listed as back living in Colbert County, Alabama. Husband Thomas Howell is not listed and must of already passed away. Erin died in 1967 and is buried in Colbert County, Alabama. Thanks for any help. SteveCooper Florence, Alabama stevecooper75@comcast.net

    3. Greetings, I am writing once again looking for any leads on Cora Lee WHITE (b. Jan 3 1903 in No. AL or Middle TN) (d. Jun 7 1938) and is buried in Mhoontown Cemetery, Cherokee, Colbert Co., AL. Supposedly, she is the daughter of Daniel WHITE (b. Jul 4 1879 d. Sep 5 1943) and probably Martha Lula UNKNOWN (b. Jan 15 1886 d. Mar 3 1963) buried in Mhoontown Cemetery, Cherokee, AL There is also a Dessie WHITE (b. Jan 21 1923 d. Jul 26 1939) buried next to Martha and Daniel. Daniel W. White (b. 4 Jul 1879) is listed as the son of John N. WHITE (b. ca 1854 in TN) m. to Susan C. (b. ca 1859) in the 1880 census, Seventh Civil District Meigs Co., TN. Susan C. must have been a second wife since she is only 21 and there is a 12 year old daughter, Ida Bell listed. Other children listed are Melbourne R. age 4 and Matilda L. age 3. Daniel W. WHITE is listed in the 1920 US Census in Cherokee Beat, AL. His wife Lula V. age 30, Richard R. age 15, Cecil G. age 12, Myrtle L. age 13, Bennie A.? age 7, Dail J.? age 3 10/12, and Jessie C. age under 1 yr. My grandmother Cynthia Pauline WADKINS was their oldest daughter (b. Dec 28 1918 m. to Sam ASKEW in 1938 d. Nov 9 1994). Ham was mostly Cherokee and it has been said by distant relatives that Cora Lee had some "Indian blood." However, they were all listed as White (Caucasian) in the info that I have found. If rings a bell with anyone, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks, Kaeli kaeliferguson@bellsouth.net
