This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg//QS.2ADI/473 Message Board Post: I am researching Spencer families who lived in Chickasaw and later Riveron from 1850-1900. I am trying to make connections back to thier families who came from TN and settled in Chickasaw before the 1850 census. Of interest are A.E Spencer, born 1824 in TN; Oliver E. Spencer, born 1826 in TN;, Jessee ( Jessey) Spencer born 1824 in TN. Also of particular interest is Thomas Spencer born 1833 in TN ( my gggrandfather) who owned the Spencer Hotel in Riverton, and operated the first public ferry from Riverton to Waterloo.
Darlene, Thank you for you posting. I've tried that several times, even with different spellings. This Landers family seems to be primarily in the Srygley/Frankfort are. I have. Daniel B Landers and Darthula Guyton had the following children: Myrtle born Feb 1888 Maud M born Apr 1889 John Murfey born Apr 19, 1890 May B born May 1892 Millie A born Sep 1893 Albert Monroe born Nov 24, 1894, died Jun 15, 1966 Tuscumbia Malva A born Mar 1898 Willie McKinley born Jan 18, 1901, died Feb 1970 Russellville (Leon's Father) Olen M born Dec 8, 1909, died Jan 1981 Tuscumbia I could find nothing on who the girls married, of course, I haven't sent the papers to Leon and Edith yet to supply more recent information they might know. I also was not able to find information on Darthula GUYTON. I first find Daniel Landers in 1870 Colbert County, Township 5, Range 13 under Frances SANDERS, his mother and brother, Ruebin. In 1880, Daniel is listed under his father, Frank, and Frank's 5 grandchildren. This is under LANDERS and in Srygley, Colbert Co. There has to be a census listing for Frank, Frances, Rueben and at least a couple of other children, since Rueben was born c 1850. I figure Rueben has to be on at least an 1860 census with his family. Thanks again. Cynthia In a message dated 9/12/05 9:36:04 A.M. Central Daylight Time, cynthia625@sbcglobal.net writes: I am doing research for my second cousins husband, Leon Landers. His great-grandfather is definitely Daniel B Landers (born c1860 AL) of Srygley, Colbert Co. Daniel also had a brother or half brother, Rueben T Landers, who went to Texas between 1880 and 1900. In 1880 I find Daniel living with Frank Landers who I'm assuming is his father. There are also grandchildren of Frank living in the household, Lorna Landers c1869 g-daughter, Chestina Landers c1871 g-daughter, Henry Landers c1873 g-son, Willie Landers c1875 g-daughter, and Ida Landers c1878 g-daughter. Rueben is married living near by. In 1870 the census lists Frances born c 1825 AL, Female, Rubin, 19 and Daniel, 9, but no Frank. So far I have been unable to locate any of them in 1860. The lineage looks like this so far: Frank Landers born c1822 AL and Frances Unknown born c 1825 AL Children: Rueben Landers born c1849 AL Daniel B Landers born c1860 AL Grandchildren (not Rueben's): Lorna Landers Chestina Landers Henry Landers Willie Landers Ida Landers Does this Landers connect to any of the other Landers in Lawrence and Franklin counties? I have found the name listed as Sanders, Londers, etc. and have been through census frames one page at a time. Any ideas out there? Cynthia Chandler East Peoria, IL

1st Annual Wedding Reunion at the Tishomingo County Archives & History Museum Saturday, September 3, 2005 Did you tie the knot in Iuka, Mississippi? Do you know someone who did? At one period in history, Tishomingo County, Mississippi, was referred to as the "Marriage Capital of the South." During this time, surrounding states had a three-day waiting period for a marriage license. The State of Mississippi had no such law; therefore, citizens of Tennessee and Alabama would drive to Iuka and be married in the courthouse. Return to the courthouse with your families to remember where your lives began together. A Mass Re-Commitment Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. followed by a reception for all couples. Single ceremonies will be available throughout the day. All couples who pre-register will receive a Certificate of Marriage and a photo to commemorate their re-commitment. This will not be a legal document, and no proof of age will be required. Pre-registration is required by August 26, 2005. Cost is $15 per couple (includes certificate, photo, and reception.) For more information, contact TCAHM, 203 E. Quitman Street, P.O. Box 273, Iuka, MS 38852. You may also call (662) 423-3500 or e-mail tcarchives@nadata.net.

I'm looking for the parents and siblings of a "James May" Born between 1830-1840. James may have been born in Tennessee, Alabama, or Mississippi. James had 3 children with Marinda Welch from Tishomingo County, Mississippi. Marinda was also known as Amanda. The children were: 1 - Mollie May - b. May 1865 2 - John Henry May - b. Dec 25, 1866 3 - Fannie May - b. Oct 31, 1867 Marinda's parents are John & Sarah (Hayes) Welch. Family story: James & Marinda were on the road (to Arkansas?) with the 3 children in a covered wagon after their house burned in Greenville. (I don't know where Greenville is for sure TN, MS, AL???). Along the way, James was killed and robbed of $700 in Tennessee (between 1867 - 1880) and Marinda wrote to her brother John Welch (b=1844) in Arkansas to come get her. A local in Lauderdale Co., AL was kind enough to look this up for me in the past few days: 1860 census of Lauderdale County, AL - Florence Post Office Section Mays, James J. 29 M Farmer Ala. Merinda 18 F Tenn Martha 6/12 F Ala. IF this is the same MAY/WELCH couple, does Martha somehow match to one of the other children (Fannie/Mollie)? Or is Martha a 4th child that disappears? If you can match this to more information I'd love to hear from you. Elden May Little Rock, Arkansas
