Hi Howard, Are you related to the Gray family? My grandfather was Edward Gray; his brother was Robert Gray, and both lived outside Tuscumbia, in Colbert County. My grandfather, Ed Gray, died in the early 1960s and was in his early to mid 70s. That would place him being born somewhere around 1890. Ed Gray married Cora Sockwell. Robert "Bob" Gray married my mother's sister, Alice Hall; so he was my uncle and my great-uncle. I believe that my grandfather, Ed Gray, and possibly Bob Gray, worked on the building of the TVA dam between Sheffield and Florence. Do any of these names ring a bell with you? Thank you and God bless, Bill Gray ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Howard Brooks wrote: > Steve Cooper, > > My name is Howard Brooks, and your e-mail has been sitting here for some > time and I've i ntended to respond. > > My family lived just to the south of the Tennessee River in the area east of > Wheeler Dam. > > I've found many family graves between Wheeler Dam and Town Creek. > > But we are still missing some people. > > I'm looking for people named Gray who lived along the river. Steve Cooper, My name is Howard Brooks, and your e-mail has been sitting here for some time and I've i ntended to respond. My family lived just to the south of the Tennessee River in the area east of Wheeler Dam. I've found many family graves between Wheeler Dam and Town Creek. But we are still missing some people. I'm looking for people named Gray who lived along the river. And I am particularly looking for an Emiline Cooper, who was a wife of James Madison Gray (1818-80). I know the gravesite of J.M. Gray, and also am acquainted with the gravesites of several other wives, but the Emiline Cooper gravesite has never been found. I think it's possible she was buried in an area later covered by the lake. So I understand you have access to cemetery records for people buried in cemeteries that were later moved to Lauderdale County. Do you have any Grays or any Emiline Cooper? Any info you can provide would be helpful. I am trying to gather any and all information about them, and anyone who is interested in helping please feel free to contact me at Johnnyreb6@aol.com. I am currently gathering the rosters of all the Southern Volunteers who served in the Spanish American War, and as you can imagine it's pretty difficult trying to locate all these men by ones self, so I'm looking for any help that I can get. I'm looking for any artifacts, grave locations, personal documents, etc... regarding the Veterans of 1898' to 1902' from Mississippi, or any other State for that matter. This is part of a larger effort by myself and the members of the Micah John Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans, to try and make sure that the Veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition, are remembered. If anyone is interested in more information about the S.S.A.W.V. please feel free to visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/sonsofspanamwar/, for more information about the General William C. Their mother was Artemissa Henrietta Thomas Johnson Stout. She is my ggggrandmothers sister and I don't have much info on her at all. I know she first married unknown Johnson sometime 1850-1860 and he must have died in the war because in 1870 census, Colbert, Alabama she has remarried Decatur Stout and these children are living with them. In 1880 census, Henderson, Tennessee Artemissa must have passed away because she's not listed and only Marilda out of the three children is living with Decatur. Where did the boys go and what happened to Artemissa? Please, if you have any info on this family please share with me. I found where Marilda A. Johnson married George W. Bond Nov. 25, 1887 in Colbert. Is this the same Marilda?

If you are looking for a landmark, such as a cemetery, church, or other landmark, you can go to www.topozone.com and probably find it. On the home page down to the lower left, you will find a "Place Name Search" window. Enter name and state. (example: King cemetery, AL) Search will bring up a list of cemeteries with that name and all counties, with USGS Quad, and latitude & longitude. You can click on the map desired on the list. Once you view the map, you can change the "Map Size" and "View Scale" to get a better view of the location. I have found this very helpful in finding cemeteries. These maps are topographic maps and will not show most county road numbers, but will give you a good idea where it is located. I hope that this is helpful. --- avast! Could this Karg be related to the Karg's in Sheffield, AL who ran a home delivery grocery store on East Second Ave in Sheffield? The name is unusual for this section of the country. Know this is no help but someone else might be able to shed further light. Patrick
