However, I missed this post when looking. I knew this lady. Her father was a distant relative to my father. Clara Wadkins Nulph was a daughter to Turner and Jeanettie Mae Wadkins. I cannot remember the name of her husband but know that he was a police officer in the 50's in Cherokee. I will find out his name from a family member. They had three children Charles (Chuck) who was in California last I heard, Christine who recently relocated to Tuscumbia from California (been there about 25 years) and Jessie who I see from time to time. Clara is buried at Mhoontown Cemetary in Cherokee in the lower southwest corner. Her mother is buried there also but her father is buried at Snowdown Cemetary in Iuka, MS. Hope this helps.

    1. [ALCOLBER] Help needed for research on Sargent/ Johnson/ Dowdy families in Colbert Co. Ple
    2. Hello, I am looking for information on Martha Sargent who died in 1925 and was wondering if there might be a obit for her anywhere. Also some of my family have been buried in Crooked Oak Cemetery and are not listed on the cemetery site. Is there anyway of finding out everyone that is intered into that cemetery, a list somewhere are anything? Also I am searching for the death date of Nancy J. Sargent who married Gorden Johnson, she is listed in the 1920 census in Colbert Co. with her son Joseph Johnson and his family. She is 56 and I can not find her in 1930. They were living in the Tuscumbia precinct at that time. Also looking for Dona Sargent who married a William Dowdy and last I can find any info on them is that W S. Dowdy died in 1925 and also is buried in Crooked Oak Cemetery. Dona would have been only 43 yrs old. Did she remarry? Her given name was Alice C. and she married William under these initials A. C. Sargent , so she might have given these initials again if she remarried. There was also a brother to Nancy and Dona named Edward Sargent born 1878 that I know nothing about except his was in Bowie Co. Texas in 1900 and he was single at that time. Also there was another brother James Lee that went by Lee that was born 1871 that I know nothing about and can not find him. This family and its descendants seemed to move from Miss, Al, Ark, and Texas a lot. with a few settling here and there. I am going on a genealogy trip to Tenn in May and need as much info as I can get to help me. I would appreciate any help at all. I have been hard at work on this line for about six years and have quit a bit on them, but there are these things that I still do not know any help would be great. Carol

My line ran through their son Tyra Wallis and his son John Robert. There was a son of Tyra Wallis named Oscar that died in a carwreck in Tuscumbia. I've never been able to find any descendents for him. Also hoping to find new family members. This family married into the Coats line too. Billie

    3. "My" Kennedy's were in Colbert/Franklin Co., AL from about 1840 through 1880, according to census records. Prior to that, I believe they were in Lawrence Co., TN. Seeking information on Eli M. C. KENNEDY and his descendants. Eli was born about 1793. He married (1) Margaret L. Finly, 16 Aug 1814, and (2) Elizabeth Curry, 23 Jan 1823. Eli was living in Lawrence County, TN on the 1820 census records. His marriages took place in nearby Maury County (assuming this is the same Eli). Eli's son, Samuel KENNEDY (b. abt. 1824) m. Ellen SANDERSON (b. abt. 1824) abt. 1842, probably in Colbert [Franklin] Co, AL. They had the following children: Eli M. C., b. abt. 1844, m. One Edwards is listed: Don Edwards born 1902 died 1902 Lauderdale County, Alabama Old Waterloo Cemetery moved to New Richardson Cemetery 1937 This says Cause of death : Stbl STBL is stomach trouble STLB is Stillborn/born dead My guess is that this should have said "stlb". 3. Hello: I am not very fast at getting around to my emails also. What I have is a list that I copied, that gives information about the TVA Cemetery Relocation Program. It was sent to Mr. Billy Joe Sledge of Waterloo, Alabama by TVA Historian, Patricia Bernard Ezzell. Mr. Sledge was kind enough to allow me to copy the information. I believe there may also be a copy of this list at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library but I have not been able to locate it. In a letter that was sent to Mr. Sledge it states "... the enclosed information represents what was found during a search of the database for Colbert and Lauderdale Counties". What I have is all for west Lauderdale County, Alabama except for several members of a RAY family that were not moved from the Ray Family Cemetery and a CURTIN baby that was moved from a Bray Cemetery to Margerum. These were from Colbert County, Alabama. I will be glad to check names for anyone that wishes me to see if their ancestor is on this list. There are both white & black families on this list. I also have some pictures that were taken of the OLD WATERLOO/WITHERSPOON Cemetery next to the baseball field at Waterloo. Some graves were removed in 1937 but when the water is low prints in the clay still show where the graves once were. There were about 222 graves there. Some most likely are under the water throughout the year. 3. No, none of those names ring a bell. Sorry. If you go back to the l850-l860 period, there are several Gray groups in the Lawrence County area. Jonathan Gray had a number of sons, but most of that family (my family) moved out of the area due to the violence following the Civil War. James Madison Gray did stay in the area, and he died in l880. His won, William Gray, moved to Decatur and worked for the railway. He died in l920. Another son, John Milton Gray, moved to an area north of Memphis, Tennessee. Anyhow, if you go back to that time period of l850-60s, there are some other Grays in the Lawrence County area.
