The Transylvania Genealogy Group (Transylvania County NC) is working to get the news out that just over 100 copies remain of the new county heritage book, "The Heritage of Transylvania County, North Carolina Vol II." You are right about Manuel B Michael married Melvina Burnett and Andrew married Myrtie (spellings wrong), Manuel was known as Bud by everyone and I believe I know where Myrtie is buried (unmarked grave now), I'd like to see what you think of the things I have too, My ggrandfather was Lee Michael, brother of Bud and Andrew-- my ggrandmother was Melvina's sister Elizabeth "Lizzie" Burnett You can email me straight through and I'll get all my research out on both families and see what we can come up with----here2stay@yahoo-com (remember can't do the period, sorry) I really look forward to hearing from you, I haven't had a lot of luck finding others researching this family Hope to talk soon, Celina Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm new to the list. I'm researching my GREENHILL's and allied families of WALDRUP, CAMPBELL, MURRELL, WHITEHEAD, DOWNS-GOODWIN, BRANSCOM, PEAK, SWIGGETT BOO, FOWLER, WILLIAMS, TALIAFERRO, BOATWRIGHT, MORTON, ETC... These lines also allied, but may have been in VA alone: CLAIBORNE, JONES, WARD, LEIGH, STAINBACK, RANDOLPH, WASHINGTON, PETTIWAY, WORSHAM, LEWIS, HUDSON, MOHORN, COLEMAN-PEGRAM, ETC... My ggg grandfather, Mantleburt GREENHILL is supposed to have died in Barton in 1854, which would have been Franklin Co at that time. I am trying to confirm that information. He seems to be very hard to locate. I've been unable to local much in the way of cemetery records online. Can anyone tell me the best place to do that. Is there a cemetery book available for Colbert County or have many of the cemteries not been surveyed? Is there any volunteers in the area that will help? If so, how do I contact them. Seems like all the links and email addresses online are no good anymore. Also other records. I assume that all prior to the date (abt 1867?) where Colbert Co came into effect will be located at Franklin County Clerk. Can someone confirm that. The family was in Franklin County, most in the Colbert Co. area after Colbert Co was separated from Franklin Co. Some still in Franklin and some possibly in Lawrence. Some back and forth to MS and then on to TX. I also think that Manual B is actually a Michaels and not a Burnett, and that he later married Melvina (daughter of Dock Burnett). These are mostly guesses from analyzing census records. I have been trying to find the parents of Mary and Myrtie, and wonder if Susie had children in between census'. Am interested in your thoughts on my theory. If Eugene was in US army on Dec 20, 1941, the widow, Sarah, probably would have been eligible for benefits, if any. A check with the US Army records might indicate the maiden name of his wife. I lived on Montgomery Ave in Sheffield at that time and recall a horrific auto accident that took place on Raleigh Ave. A car traveling north on Raleigh Ave probably at a high rate of speed did not make the sharp turn and tumbled all the way down the ravine and into the deep drainage ditch. I assume that the car was speeding because the engine, transmission, and other parts were scattered along the path of the car. I never knew whether or not anybody was injured, or killed but considering the damage to the automobile, and the distance the car rolled down hill and into that ten to fifteen deep ditch. This may not be the accident in which Eugene Pursley was killed but the time frame is approximately correct. Eugene was a PFC in the US Army in 1941 when he died in a car crash in Sheffield, AL. On his death certificate (which I have), he is listed as "Married", and his surviving spouse is given as "Sarah Pursley, age 16". Given their ages, Eugene could not have been married long. In fact, according to my grandmother, no one in the family knew he was married until he died. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Where would a soldier likely be stationed near to Sheffield, AL? Is there a nearby base in Alabama or Tennessee? Does anyone know anything about Sarah (I assume it is likely she re-married at some point, but who knows)? Thanks Glenn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There was an airbase at Courtland, Alabama, just a few miles from Sheffield. It a very large training center for pilots. There were some plants in Sheffield and Muscle Shoals considered crucial to the war i ndustry, but I don't know if the military had a presence "guarding" the plants.
