Gabriel Kettner enlisted Mar 13, 1862 as Pvt, Co K, 33d Ala Inf Rgt, age 32; serious wound at Murfreesboro, Tenn Dec 31, 1862; at home on convalescent furlough Jan-Feb 1863 extended to May 1863; present for musters Sep-Dec 1863; late in the war, the 33d and 17th Ala Inf Rgts were consolidated; one G. Kettner was paroled as Pvt, Co F, 17th Ala Inf Rgt at Greensboro, NC May 1, 1865. Co K, made-up mostly of those from Coffee was called "Shorter Guards"; organized at Clintonville and accepted into Confederate service at Greenville Mar 13, 1862 under the command of Capt Daniel H. Horn. Gabriel has a service record at NARA and most likely the State Archives; if he or his wife ever filed for a pension, should be a world of information on the pension application, which can be found only at State Archives.
