Ward X-Brightmail: Message tested, results are inconclusive A big thanks to Phyllis for checking with The Elba Clipper newspaper and making arrangements with Heddy for me to get the obituary for my aunt. Unfortunately, I did not know of her death until just recently so I was unable to attend the funeral. The obit did not contain very much information so I will post the obit here and then add additional information below. The Elba Clipper - Thursday, March 24, 2005 VASSIE WARD Mrs. Vassie Ward, age 80, formerly of Elba, Ala., died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the Enterprise Nursing Home. Funeral services were held March 22, 2005 from the Chapel of Hayes Funeral Home in Elba with the Rev. Shirley Hatcher officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home directing. Survivors include her son: Joe Folds, Tampa, Fla.; one brother: Monroe Richardson, Elba; and a sister: Vertie Haggard, Winter Haven, Fla. Additional information: Vassie Merle Richardson was born on 19 Sep 1924 in Kinston, Coffee County, Alabama to John Thomas Richardson and Cleo Esther (Curby) Richardson. She was preceded in death by her brother James Monroe Richardson who died in 1970, sisters Bertie Gardis Nolin who died in 1991, Louie Berle Richardson who died in 1938, Hazel Cleo Thigpen who died in 2000, Theopal Jeanette Thigpin who died in 1987 and Esther Lou Glass who died in 1996. She is survived by her eldest sister Vertie Gladys Hager (not Haggard as stated in the obituary), her younger brother Johnny Monroe Richardson and her son Joe Clenton Folds.
