The Thames-Timms Family Association has been doing DNA testing for the last year or so and have results from several of their lines that has proven helpful to them. It's true that the male descendents from the family line you are researching are the only ones who can take the test. The following is copied from their web-site. *The recommendation was posted to their members since that was the company they chose to use and is not meant to be a recommendation to the reader of this post. You can visit their website or go to the Thames web-site, http://www.thames-tims.org , for more info. *"We are recommending using the Family Tree DNA company for testing. Their website is www.ftdna.com. It is simple to participate and done at home. You order the test over the Internet and receive it by mail. The test is simple, using a toothbrush-like device to scrape the inside of the cheek, put the two samples in a vial provided and return them to the company in a mailer provided by the company. The cost is about $229 for the 37-marker test which we recommend, and it takes about 8 weeks to get the results. You need not be a member of the Thames-Tims Association to participate in this DNA program. If you do not have a computer or access to the Internet, ask someone who does to order the test for you. The price above includes a group discount." If their are any Thames, Timms, Themes or a variant spelling interested in testing, please do go to the website and follow through.
