    3. After much grumbling & some kind help from my GR-Aunt, I've managed to find time to update my web sites. There's been about 40 visitors a week & I'd like to thank them. Few have written so I'm not sure if what I have there is much help (one would like to think what they do has SOME meaning or worth). <g> Briefly, how my line came to be in Alabama is as follows (near as I can tell): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: "Tew's of NC" : (9.) JOHN TEW, born about 1765 in Duplin County (later Sampson County), North Carolina; died 23 September 1846 near Louisville, Barbour County, Alabama; married about 1789 a woman whose name and family are unknown; may have married second Patience _______, who was born about 1788 and died during the 1870's in Barbour County. He moved to Pike County, Alabama, sometime in the late 1820's, and from there to Barbour County in 1836. His estate records list all sons, daughters, or their spouses. John Tew preached in a Primitive Baptist Church - - Spring Hill Baptist near Blue Springs/Louisville, Barbour Co, AL John Tew (9.) was joined by his children from late 1830 to 1840. They were: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sylvania Tew & husband James H. Cain abt 1836 to Barbour Co, AL. Believed to have moved to Henry Co, AL aft 1850. Blackman Tew & wife Martha Williams abt 1838 to Greene Co {later Sumpter Co, AL} (via Cumberland Co, NC). Wallace Tew & wife Martha Wilkinson abt 1836 to Barbour Co, AL Wallace's son John marries Frances Elizabeth 'Eliza' Wooten (dau of Jordan Wooten & Mary Strickland). Jonathan Tew & wife Nancy Strickland abt 1836 to Barbour Co, AL Jonathon served in the 42nd Regiment of Alabama Militia in the Creek Wars of 1836-7. Moving in 1860 to MS. William Tew & wife Lucinda ____, abt 1836 to Barbour Co, AL. William served in the 42nd Regiment of Alabama Militia in the Creek Wars of 1836-7. Following Jonathan to MS. Winneford Tew & husband Daniel Adkinson. Winneford died abt 1860, reportedly shot by a man named Grimes. Daniel served in the 42nd Regiment of Alabama Militia in the Creek Wars of 1836-7. Jane Tew & husband Willis Bass. Both dying abt 1860 in Houston Co, AL. Willis served in the 42nd Regiment of Alabama Militia in the Creek Wars of 1836-7. Peter Tew & wife Rebecca Bass. Peter served in the 42nd Regiment of Alabama Militia in the Creek Wars of 1836-7, and in Co 'B', Alabama 57th Infantry during the Civil War. Allen Tew & wife Sarah _____. Ending their years in Pike Co, AL. Allen served in Co 'B', Alabama 57th Infantry during the Civil War. James Tew & wife Luvina (Dykes) Wilkinson. Ending their years near Blue Springs, Barbour Co, AL. James served in Co 'K', Alabama 29th Infantry, during the Civil War. Following/joining John Tew's children on their trek from NC to AL was John Tew's sister Elizabeth and her husband, James Wooten; their son Jordan Wooten & wife Mary Strickland along with Jordan & Mary's children. Jordan shows up on the 1850 Barbour census (#206) as Jordan Whooten, & again on the 1860 Dale Co census (HH#1511/723.gif). My gr-aunt (gr-dau of James Daniel Wooten b. 1828 [above]) remembers distinctly hearing that there was eleven families that left North Carolina together. The Wooten, Jowers & Strickland families made a strong showing at the recruiting stations around southern Alabama at the start of the war. The websites updated are here (the ones of use to anyone interested): http://pages.prodigy.net/billpayer/master.htm http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/o/o/William-J-Wooten/ The story isn't complete by any means. It's only with the help of fellow researchers (you know whom you are) that I've managed to get the little bit I currently have. THANK YOU Please let me know of errors, omissions and additions.... and broken links. The GEDCOM files were removed some time ago. Even though they were privatived to protect the living, I wanted more control over who got it... and why. Also in the works is a complete (sort of) list of whom is buried where... for the entire database and maybe one for each county. Keep checking back. Bill Wooten mailto:BILLPAYER@prodigy.net
