    3. Folks... Before the virus thread gets TOO much traffic going... again & considering I spend upwards of 350hrs a month connected to the internet I've found the following to be true... anytime you get a file that ends with PIF, BAT, VBS and EXE it is a BUG! Delete it immediately. Think about it... WHY would anyone send you a file other than GED, DOC, TXT, WPS, in other words, a file that DOES something. (Savvy attachment senders ASK if it's ok to send you an attachment, then ZIP it so it doesn't become corrupted). http://www.winzip.com/ Web savvy LIST Moderators strip attachments at the server... so being on the list will protect you (most lists). I've also been getting e-mail that doesn't contain anything... no body to the message. It's also a bug... when you get an e-mail entitled "CUTE_CALICO_CAT.JPG.pif" it isn't cute, calico OR a cat. It's a BUG! Kill it! Spend the $40 or so for Norton AntiVirus... it beats erasing a 60gb hard drive. (BTW... I'm using the copy I got in '95 & it updates itself weekly). OTOH... if more folks weren't joined at the hip to MSIE & MS Outlook Express (more like Lookout Distress actually) most of the bugs would die on their own. I use Netscape to handle my mail & browse the web (just imagine, no cookies!) then I went here: http://www.98lite.net/products.html and completely removed MSIE from my system. (Yes, boys and girls, Microsoft Internet Explorer CAN be deleted). If you can't run with the big dogs (without spreading fleas) stay on the porch. <grin> Scoot mailto:BILLPAYER@prodigy.net
