Merry Christmas, all ALCOFFEE mailing listers! For those of you who are akin to the DeShazo family, or research their family name, the Dothan Police Department will be holding a memorial service in honor of Mr. Hugh Horace DeShazo on Saturday morning, December 8, 2007, 10am at the Daleville Cemetery located next door to McLin's Restaurant in Daleville, Alabama. There are other plans on other dates, if they have not already been carried out. Officer DeShazo was a Dothan Police Officer. He was killed in the line of duty on December 8th, 1914. He was the first Police Officer ever killed in Dothan. Mr. DeShazo is the grandfather of one of our long time ALCOFFEE mailing listers Pat Crowley Overby (Mrs. Jim Overby) of Texas. This memorial is nearly one hundred years in coming. Mrs. DeShazo passed in 2004 to never see her father's memorial inacted. But I know she is smiling down now with pride. See archived email with Dothan Eagle story at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ALDALE/2007-07/1184431873 If you can attend, please do. Pat will be flying in Thursday night. I am hoping we can meet at Cutts in Enterprise for a heeping helping of their wonderful southern staple of fried fish on Friday night about 5pm. Please join us if you can. Merry Christmas 2007! Could someone please tell me how the name "DeShazo" is pronounced? I have run across it many times in my research but never heard anyone say it. Is the "a" long, as in "De Shayzo" or short, as in "De Shazzo"? On Dec 5, 2007 12:14 AM, Phyllis J. K.
