Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3R.2ADE/1806.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Sarah Jane Hood (1843-1931), and her husband, John Taylor Hood, lived and farmed in Coffee Co., AL. Sarah was born June 1843 at four o'clock in the morning in Barbour Co., AL to Daniel Stone Hood (born 1812) and Eliza Jane Jernigan (b. 1817). The 1850 Dale County Census shows Daniel Stone Hood and Eliza Jane with Children: Mary Jane, Eliza Jane, Charlottte Jane, John C. and Agustavis. The 1860 census show two more children; Tolbert and Martha Jane. By 1870, there is one more son, A.E. Hood. Daniel and Eliza have died and John C. is the head of household. A.E. is eight years old. John C. served in the confederate war and returned home to marry Mary Sellers. Daniel, a school teacher, educated his sons. The times and living were hard, but they had each other. The south was recovering from the war years. Many young men had died in the war. Sarah Jane was thrty years old when she married her cousin, John Taylor Hood (b. 1847). He was the son of Joshua T. Hood and Elizabeth Cole. Daniel Stone and Joshua T. were brothers. They were shool teachers and surveyors. Daniel lived past 1866 and Joshua died before 1880. John and Sarah moved into Coffee County about 1885. They were farmers. That have many descendants living in the Coffee Co., area today. One of the their sons, Jessie Taylor Hood, b. 1876, married Polly Edgar in 1932 in Coffee County. She sleeps in the Old Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery. Her grave marked has long disappeared. Close by are the graves of her son, Jessie T. Hood and his wife Polly Edgar. The cemetery is located near New Brockton, northeast of Enterprise. Sarah's brother, Arthur Elsy Hood, lived in Enterprise in 1910 with his wife and children. A.E. (1861-1921) was my g,grandfather. His daughter Mamie Lee Hood (1897-1978), was my grandmother.
