    1. Re: JAMES FRANKLIN GRIMES
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3R.2ADE/533.1.1.1 Message Board Post: My friend is in Scotland for the British Open (lucky him), but I am pretty sure he does not know anything past James Franklin..in fact, he thought James Felix was correct (based on his own search) until I showed him the Montgomery obit. So it seems to me (do you agree?) that someone in the past misapplied a James Felix to this family, perhaps seeing a James F. Grimes and jumping to a conclusion despite inaccurate dates. Do you know where the birth/death dates for James Felix came from? Although I am doing this search for my neighbor as a favor, I do geneaology rsch as a side biz (and write private family bios with what I find), and misidentification happens like this all of the time..especially on sites like anc.com which have no proof requirement. That said, if you trace James Franklin Grimes back on ancestry.com. there is only one and it is a match. it shows that someone has him placed in the same family (with the same siblings and mother and father) that others have placed James Felix. That person has taken this Grimes line back to pre-1700 Scotland. I am going to send her an email after this one to see what she knows...hopefully the address is still good. Since I am positive that the obit names my friend's grandfather, I am working on the assumption that James Franklin is the correct father for Ohman (Ormond) and Dewey..and that the challenge is to prove the connection to the next Grimes back (dont have my notes was it James Thomas?) . Interestingly, in the anc.com trace of James Franklin..his grandfather was named Felix Grimes.so that may be a point of confusion. One other thing..I had another Grimes name (again no notes with me now believe it was Alvin or Calvin something )that my friend had as a name from his family's past. Interestingly, this person died at the Alamo.. and his family was from the same tiny NC town as our Grimes..no doubt they were related..so maybe another clue.. I have learned a few discovery tricks over the years..maybe I can shake something loose..if so I will let you know..pls do the same..email address is [email protected] Thanks, Andy Brandon
