Hello All, I received a email x2 from some people called "GenTruth". In the body of the email they go on to say Excrept from my email: Inside this issue of In The Spotlight, we are going to discuss the different aspects of Family Discovery. If you have not heard of, or don't understand this service, be sure to read on and learn everything you need to know about their service. Family Discovery offers an online-based genealogical research tool. They provide a unique service that many researchers don't understand. When it comes down to it, they offer a pay for use search engine. At first, this sounds like an absurd place to spend your time. I mean, there are tons of free search engines out there. Why would someone pay for access to one? End excrept. (didn't want to waste your email space) If you haven't received your copy of the junk mail you can email me and I would be happy to send it out to you so you don't become one of the many that have been had by these people. Sincerely, Kim Pollard -- http://www.cableone.net/jamez/family.htm Check out some of the other websites I'm running. http://drew-ms.netfirms.com/ http://www.fortunecity.com/westwood/beautiful/877/ or http://nav.to/Merick
Hello All, Your moderator does see your posts.... I have just arrived home from work and have just learned of the virus through your emails to the list. I have deleted wwwbutts@prodigy.com and forwarded an email to him stating so and the reason. I hope that there is a minumum of damage to his and those who received the bug's computers. I am ABSOLUTELY positive that Willie is not sending this virus intentionally! There are bugs which get into a system and send emails to any address that is on the bugged systems address book...I feel this is the case here. Willie is a responsible man who does lots of genealogy work. I would appreciate that anyone who receives a bug in the future from someone on the list, please email me immediately so as I can delete bugged member from mailing list until they have problem corrected. Any one of us can pick up a bug and transfer it without knowing it. But, do be careful of ANY email that you receive. Respectfully, Phyllis J. K. Owens
Since adding the post to the list about the virus, SeƱior WWWBUTTS @ prodigy has tried to send me 10 e-mails containing the bug....... I don't know this person. Don't know a reason why they should write me. I've notified his ISP that they should cancel his account & internet access. I've also set up a filter so ANY mail from that address is automaticly deleted. caveat lector I'll reserve comments about his 'nettiquite since this entire topic is OFF THREAD. (Where's the moderator when ya need one)
The virus does not come from the list. It comes from a list member who has the virus. It responds to the person who sends mail to the list. However, often the person will not know they have a virus unless we tell them. Some of the programs are missing the new viruses. . We should never open an attachment that you have not verified from the sender and them explaining what the attachments is. The virus will tell you to look to or toward the attachment. Also, A friend of mine just got a virus thru her msn messenger. Now we have another place of concern. Also, it is my opinion that after a few days of notices thru the list that a person has the virus and they have not fixed or corrected it, they should be unsubscribed until they do so. This is to protect the rest of the list. Winnette

The clay county list is not responsible. I believe it gets in your addresses and just goes to mailing its self to every one.

Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Coffee/10471 Surname: Barley, Blackshear, Barbaree, Beckham, Butler, Roberts, Grant ------------------------- I sent an email yesterday to the group hoping for information. I received a worm virus today from an individual in the group. I have received alot of information from this individual in the past so I don't believe that it was intentional. I believe that it probably got into his e-mail system and sent it to all address. Though I am not sure about that-- Just a guess--If you get a file from the Coffee County group and it says the file is SETUP.PIF--IT IS (W32.Badtrans.13312@mm) DELETE IMMEDIATELY--IT IS A VERY DESTRUCTIVE WORM--My Norton anit-virus caught it before it destroyed my computer. Hope everyone else gets this message before they open it. Diane

Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Coffee/10469 Surname: Barley, Blackshear, Barbaree ------------------------- I am trying to find out about the Barley, Blackshears, and Barbarees that lived in Coffee County. I know that my ggggrandfather was Washington L. Barley and he married Virginia Grant. He was supposedly killed in the Civil War in FL--His son John L. Barley married Sarah B. Barbaree who had a sister named Martha--Sarah's parents were Thomas Barbaree and Mary A. Blackshear. I have no other information on the Barbaree and Blackshear families. I am told that Sarah is Native American and the one picture that I have looks like she may have been. I have no information on Washington Barley other than the 1830 census that states that he lives with his mother Sarah. My mother was born in Coffee County but does not remember much of her gggrandparents. Any help in these searches would be greatly appreciated. Diane

Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Coffee/10467 Surname: Pirkle ------------------------- Sanford T. Pirkle: stated on the 1907 Coffee County Confederate Soldiers Census b. May 21, 1848 in Hall County, Ga; enlisted at Buford, Ga Oct 4, 1863 as Pvt, Co F, 27th Ga inf Rgt; paroled at Calhoun, Ga May 16, 1865; dates on headstone, May 21, 1849-Mar 19, 1926; married Margaret R. Roberts, Jan 7, 1850-Mar 24, 1932; considering either birth date, he would have been but a boy when paroled. With Margaret outliving him, looks as if both drew a Confederate pension from the State of Ala; there should be a great deal of family information on both pension applications which are on file at Ala State Archives; those may be ordered on line, with US Postal Service delivery at: www.archives.state.al.us/referenc/newform2.html Note: there is no following "e" in referenc. Please advise if I can be of further service. Homer
