Sorry, but I for one don't like the idea at all of molecular genealogy. Maybe I'm being paranoid but who's to say what will or could be done with your DNA sample later on down the road with the cloning and things scientist are doing now. There have been many times the government has used people in experiments and didn't let them know. Also what happens when one day people decide to discrimanate against people with certain genes. It can happen, just as the Jews, Blacks and Indians have been discrimanated against. Just don't think it's a good thing. It could be used in to many wrong ways, and is an invasion of privacy. Don't like the idea at all. Not something that is really needed at this time and could provide information to some people about your DNA that you really would not want them to have somewhere down the road in the future. So add one to the list one that does not like the idea at all. Robert D. Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Coffee/10583 Surname: Harrison, Prescott, Wells, Lassiter, Willibey, Dannelly, Hooker, Grimes ------------------------- James E. Harrison Bn Lowndes Co. 1822 (Montgomery Co. then) is Married to a Martha age 27 from Coffee Co. in the 1860 Clarke Co. census! She was James' 2nd wife as Fanny Grimes had died Jan 13 1849! Her children were Fredonia 1853, James 1854, Delilah Nov 1855 (all Born in Butler County Co)& Sarah 1858! Delilah's Death Certificate says "Mary Prescott" was her mother... but James married a Mary Moore in 1861 & they had 2 more Children (Edmond & Mary) so we suspect the Death Certificate name is wrong! I am checking all the Marthas in coffee county that were 16 thru 18 in 1850 in hopes of finding the mother of these 4 children! James Edmon was the son of Paschal & Elizabeth Harrison from Ga & Va. I hope someone has the key to this mystery!
Well, all, thus far, everyone who has written to me about this project really likes the idea....one stated that they had even contacted the BYU to participate via mail and was advised that it could not be done in that manner. I am happy to hear that there is interest in this area concerning the study. I was hoping that there would be a discussion online about this study.....could we hear from you online here on the ALCOFFEE mailing list concerning your thoughts about this study? Thank you all for your time. Phyllis
Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Al/Coffee/10581 Surname: McDuffie, Harrison ------------------------- Did Martha McDuffie, born in Coffee county 1833-34 marry a James E. Harrison about 1852? She is one of the possible brides of James E. Harrison living with a Martha ? in 1860 Clarke County! The 1860 Clarke census listed the county of birth for all the Alabama born... so I am checking the 10 Marthas that were in the 16-18 yr old range in 1850s! She was 27 in the Clarke county census of 1860!

Harrison married a (Martha ?)about 1852, born in coffee county! She was 27 years old in the 1860 Clarke County Census! A review of all the 17 year olds named Martha in Coffee County 1850 census gave me Martha: Harrison, Wells, Willibey, Lassiter, Dannely, & Hooker! Any help in reducing the number of possible surnames for James' wife would be most appreciated!
Greetings My Friends, I was recently contacted by the Morgan County Genealogical Society (my home county here in Alabama) as a member concerning the Molecular Genealogy project. This is a project in which participants submit a 4 generation pedigree chart, about a tablespoon of blood and a form to Brigham Young University for semblance into a database. I think that this is a great idea. I was wondering if those in Coffee County or connections to Coffee County might also like to participate in such a project here. To participate, there are 200 participants required. I was like to table this Molecular Genealogy idea as a topic for our discussion here on the ALCOFFEE mailing list. Please visit http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/ and http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/participate.html and http://molecular-genealogy.byu.edu/other.html After you have visited these links, please express your opinions of this idea. I am curious as to what others think of this idea, and how many in our area would actually be willing to participate in this project. I feel much could be learned from such a project. Our DNA make up is an accumulation of all of our foreparents. I think these tests could lead to our finding family members without paper research also. After all, those who are akin to each of us would have the same chemical makeup as we do. Let's talk about this idea.... Fare thee well, friends. Respectfully, Phyllis J. K. Owens CC CCAP site

Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Al/Coffee/10577 Surname: Harrison ------------------------- James E. Harrison bn 1822 Montgomery County (became Lowendes in 1830) appears in 1860 Clarke county census with Martha Harrison age 27 & the census indicates she was born in Coffee county! The only "Martha" between 15 & 18 years old in coffee county (via the 1850 census) is Martha Harrison age 17...Daughter of John & Martha Harrison of Coffee county! Does anyone have evidence that this Martha Harrison got married about 1852? I suspect Fredonia 1853, James 1854, Delilah 1856 & Sarah Harrison 1858 are the Children of Martha Harrison!
Posted on: Coffee County Alabama Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Al/Coffee/10576 Surname: HOLLOWAY, PARKER, KNIGHT, ECHOLS, GALLOWAY, GILMORE ------------------------- I am interested in your connection between HOLLOWAY and PARKER. I have a 1920 Federal Population Census showing a HOLLOWAY, Katie, age 16, living as an adopted daughter of a PARKER, S.S., age 35, and wife PARKER, Alice, age 34 living in Birmingham,Jefferson County, AL. I am intested in finding out if the adoption was actually a true adoption. If so what happened to HOLLOWAY, Katie....I have heard stories that she married a military man and moved to CA. When I have no idea of married name. HOLLOWAY, Katie was the birth daughter of ECHOLS, Rosa Lee don't know fathers first name. ECHOLS, Rosa Lee married three times...first HOLLOWAY (had dau. Katie and son (Walter)Sam) 2nd married GILMORE, Ira (dau Irene) and 3rd GALLOWAY, Bert. I also have the 1910 Federal Population Census for Parsons, Jefferson County, AL showing, HOLLOWAY, Katie, age 5, living with her grandparents....ECHOLS, (Absolum) Walter and wife ECHOLS, (KNIGHT) Sarah M. Her mother is living there also but under the ECHOLES name??? I'm not sure if there is a connection into Coffee County, AL but it is worth a try. I don't have much more....but would love to find a connection and any living relatives of HOLLOWAY, Katie Thank you in advance for any help....Sue
Looking for any descendants of Charles Allen and Elizabeth Cook or any information regarding them. They were married in Montgomery Co, AL in 1842, moved to Coffee Co and found in 1850 census. Charles was born about 1821. He and wife have one son William born in 1848. Can't find them in any other censuses. Elizabeth Cook, I believe, was the daughter of William and Sarah Cook who were in Montgomery County in 1840 and Sarah is listed with Elizabeth and Charles in the 1850 census. Any help will be greatly appreciate. Faye Smith phase-email@mindspring.com

They did not own this land, but were, I'm told, living on it. It's just that I'd like to find our which people were living there and when. What I have not yet done is to comb through all the census records in later years. The 1900 and 1910 records may be what I want. Gaylier
