There was a post recently about the Claybank Association and I wondered if anyone knew anything about the Sardis Association. I know they still exist today but got no response when I tried to write. I admit I couldn't find an address and used the address of Pilgrim Rest Church so it may not have gotten there. Their headquarters are supposed to be in Samson. In the organizational meeting for Pilgrims Rest Church minutes, it states that J D Fleming was there as a Deacon or Sardis Association. I believe this was in the early 1890s or late 1880s. Since he is my gr-grandfather, I'm interested in the Association and what other churches might have belonged to it. I have no idea what church he attended. He lived in the area near Kinston - at various times in Geneva, Coffee and Covington Counties. I would like very much to learn more about him. If anyone knows anything about this association or where I can find out more information, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in ! advance. Peg
My greatgrandfather was Giles Bryan. an Elder at several Primitive Baptist churches in Coffee County. They belong to the Claybank Association. Beaver Dam Church was one of the churches. My uncle Jim Morrow was also an Elder in that Church. Glenie Lunsford told me two weeks ago she had given the minutes to a lady in Enterprise, Ala. to put it on micro fish. My parents were also members of the Claybank. John David & Jessie Ross. Beaver Dam Church. They traveled from Columbus Georgia to Church once a month . If I can help anyway , please let me know. I am Willie Pearl Ross Ellis born in Coffee Countuy Ala. ----- Original Message ----- From: <soupy@adisfwb.com> To: <ALCOFFEE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2001 8:34 PM Subject: [ALCOFFEE] Claybank Association > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3R.2ADE/612 > > Message Board Post: > > Hello everyone. Gabriel Kettner enlisted Mar 13, 1862 as Pvt, Co K, 33d Ala Inf Rgt, age 32; serious wound at Murfreesboro, Tenn Dec 31, 1862; at home on convalescent furlough Jan-Feb 1863 extended to May 1863; present for musters Sep-Dec 1863; late in the war, the 33d and 17th Ala Inf Rgts were consolidated; one G. Kettner was paroled as Pvt, Co F, 17th Ala Inf Rgt at Greensboro, NC May 1, 1865. Co K, made-up mostly of those from Coffee was called "Shorter Guards"; organized at Clintonville and accepted into Confederate service at Greenville Mar 13, 1862 under the command of Capt Daniel H. Horn. Gabriel has a service record at NARA and most likely the State Archives; if he or his wife ever filed for a pension, should be a world of information on the pension application, which can be found only at State Archives. I found Gabriel in the 1860 Coffee County census. Would love to know more about him...his naturalization, where he married (June 9, 1860) and which family his wife comes from. Their first son, Cephus Bascom, was born somewhere in AL on January 23, 1864. You seem to know a lot about that area and I was wondering if you could help me with my brick wall. Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.
