    1. [ALCOFFEE] Re: Carpenter's of Coffee Co.
    2. I'm having difficulty placing my g-father, J. Littleton CARPENTER b: 1889 in Elba around the time of his birth. Nor can I find his father John Carlton Carpenter b:1860 (in Brantley, Crenshaw, AL). I have found 3 Carpenter marriages that might be related to my g-grandfather. Have any listers researched any of the following families? -Sherman CARPENTER married Mereleen HEAD on 10 Jun 1885; Coffee Co. -Ida CARPENTER m: C.S. LEE on 20 May 1885; Coffee Co. -George CARPENTER m: Julia Ann PRESCOTT on 01 May 1879; Coffee Co. If you have researched them, do you know who their other family members are? How is it that I have been able to find family in the 1700's in Germany and I can't find one g-grandparent in little 'ole Coffee Co? I sure hope you can help. Sandy Carpenter Mowery Leesburg, FL .

    1. [ALCOFFEE] Attachments with Virus, WARNING!!
    2. annie adler
    3. Folks. I just received a letter, through my personal address, where someone on one of my List supposedly answered an old inquiry of mine. The letter contained the words of my inquiry and a note to "see attachment." Nothing else. My program informed me that it COULD contain a virus even if I knew the person it was coming from, and warned against opening it. I sent a letter to my Lists asking about it and received 4 letters back that they were also receiving parts of other inquiries, not only with my name but others from our Lists, with the same format. Please pay attention to your mail and do not open the attachments you may receive unless you know without a doubt, that they are legitimate. Check with anyone who you receive an attachment from, and make sure before opening it, that they did send it. I know everyone knows this, but sometimes we just don't think about it and get caught off guard. Thank God for my protection program, because without it, that's exactly what I woul! d have done. It's a shame that some people don't have anything better to do with their lives than to try to cause havoc in other lives.

    1. [ALCOFFEE] John David Cannon, b 1865 AL, d 1935, AL>GA>AL
    2. My grandfather was John David Cannon, in some documents referred to as J. D. or John D. He was born in Feb 1865 in Alabama and died in 1935, probably in Coffee Co., Alabama, but possibly in Muscogee Co., Georgia. Apparently, he had two wives. The first was Elizabeth, born Apr 1870, Alabama. They had three daughters: Minnie, born Sep 1890, Pearllie, born Aug 1846, and Liddie, born 1902. Their descendants may still be in Coffee County. The second wife was Annie Mae Tucker, my grandmother, born May 1884, Alabama, died June 1947 at Columbus, Georgia. They had two daughters: Agnes Lela Cannon, born Sep 1910, died Oct 1990, and younger sister Metha, born about 1920. Metha had several children, probably still living. In the 1900 census, GF Cannon was enumerated in Precinct 11, Simmons Mill, Coffee Co., Alabama. Simmons Mill was also called Stanley Mill and was located just north of Kinston. In the 1910 census, he was in Precinct 15, Deanville, Coffee Co., Alabama. Deanville is now named Jack and is in north Coffee Co. In the 1920 census, he was in Columbus, Georgia, on River Road, with wife Annie and daughter Agnes. >From talking to older people in Jack, Alabama, I gather that the children of Elizabeth may have settled around Elba, Alabama. I can use any help finding the parents of John David and his wives. And anything on his children. :-) I am the son of Agnes, so I can handle that part! :-) All responses will be appreciated. Especially those from Cannon descendants around Elba and Jack! Good luck on your searches, Perry D. Walker Decatur, Alabama

    3. Hello, The writing of these books concerning each county in Alabama began about three years ago. There are many counties which have already been published, many which have been published and are being republished, many in the stages of completion, and some yet to be done. These books were not all began at the same time. Mr. Bice traveled across the state of Alabama east to west, county to county, beginning in the northern part of the state......working his way down. Pike is north of us, so they would have published ahead of us. For instance, I purchased my Heritage of Morgan County, AL back in early 1999. It has reprinted two or three times. Also, I believe the deadline for Coffee county kept getting postponed due to different reasons: such as the death of our Society President, Mr. Roy Schoffner, the illness of the publisher (cancer), the illness of the publisher's daughter (cancer), and several other valid reasons for postponement. I would like to commend the ladies and gentlemen at the Pea River Historical and Genealogical Society and the Heritage Book Committee for their time and effort in colating this book for us. These people volunteered their time to gather the stories from all of us, to proof the work, to colate and then proof the work again for publication, and get this information to the publisher for publication. Thank you, folks! The last time I visited the publisher's website, it stated that the book was in the last stage. *shrugs* I do not the exact date the books will be distributed, but I do know that we WILL get our books. Though we have all been patient thusfar, we will just have to continue to be patient until we receive our books. No amount of impatience will complete the publishing any quicker. Take care.
