3. Lee, Your question: "How bout those that have to be mailed? Have they gone out yet?" concerning the Pike County, AL Heritage Books ....I will check on and post it tomorrow. Although I am sure the Heritage Publishing Co. has now mailed them out to those who paid for them to be shipped, I will doublecheck. Also Christine Grimes Thacker, I'll check on your status also for the book. Surely they are in the mail by now, but as stated previously, I will check. 1. [ALCOFFEE] Felix Grimes of W.Va.
2. Hi All Recieved this from Loma Grimes Cross, have wondered how this Felix Grimes, might connect to the Al. Grimes of Coffee Co., Al. does anyone know ?? Thank you Subj: Re: [GRIMES-List] Felix Grimes Date: 12/7/2001 12:14:42 AM Eastern Standard Time From: lkcwks@msn.com (Loma Cross) To: CGT714@aol.com Thanks for your response. Felix Grimes is my great great great grandfather. I have information that he came over on a ship and that is where he met his wife, Catherine Hull. They came from Ireland about the close of the French and Indian War. Moved to Greenbriar Co. VA soon after the Revolution. A lot of the Grimes family stayed in VA, some went to Ohio, some went to Iowa and my grandfather, Marion Scott Grimes, came to Kansas. I believe he is the only one to come here. My grandfather was born in Parkersburg, W. VA, Wood County, later moving to Harper, KS where he lived until is death in 1939. My father was his only son, but he had five daughters. I was an only child. I married in 1952 and have 3 sons and still live in Kansas. I am also working on genealogy for my mothers side of the family (maiden name Way and I haven't been able to find much on them), my father's mother's side of the family (Wood) and also working on my grandmother's family (maiden name Brane). I haven't been too active this past year - just kind of got stuck and couldn't go any further. Every once in a while, I will get on the internet and see what I can find, but I haven't really found out too much, but maybe I just don't where to look. I have had pretty good luck at the local library, but as you know, it is very time consuming. I do have some genealogy software that I use and I have about 9 pages of the Grimes family starting with Felix if anyone would be interested. Thanks again. Loma Grimes Cross > ----- Original Message ----- > From: CGT714@aol.com > To: GRIMES-List@yahoogroups.com ; lkcwks@msn.com > Sent: Thursday, December 06, 2001 9:02 PM > Subject: Re: [GRIMES-List] Felix Grimes > > > In a message dated 12/6/2001 7:47:59 PM Eastern Standard Time, > lkcwks@msn.com writes: > > > > >> I am new to this group. Just found out about it through a message >> from this group indicating a link to a Felix Grimes. >> >> Thank you Christine Thacker - it was through your message that I was >> able to find some more on my ancestor, Felix Grimes. I have quite a >> bit of information, but am still filling in bits and pieces that I >> find. My maiden name was Grimes. A lot of my ancestors were from >> Pocahantas Co. 3. Folks... Before the virus thread gets TOO much traffic going... again & considering I spend upwards of 350hrs a month connected to the internet I've found the following to be true... anytime you get a file that ends with PIF, BAT, VBS and EXE it is a BUG! Delete it immediately. Think about it... WHY would anyone send you a file other than GED, DOC, TXT, WPS, in other words, a file that DOES something. (Savvy attachment senders ASK if it's ok to send you an attachment, then ZIP it so it doesn't become corrupted). http://www.winzip.com/ Web savvy LIST Moderators strip attachments at the server... so being on the list will protect you (most lists). I've also been getting e-mail that doesn't contain anything... no body to the message. It's also a bug... when you get an e-mail entitled "CUTE_CALICO_CAT.JPG.pif" it isn't cute, calico OR a cat. It's a BUG! Kill it! Spend the $40 or so for Norton AntiVirus... it beats erasing a 60gb hard drive. (BTW... I'm using the copy I got in '95 & it updates itself weekly). OTOH... if more folks weren't joined at the hip to MSIE & MS Outlook Express (more like Lookout Distress actually) most of the bugs would die on their own. 3. I am sorry about this, but I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is once again, because of my ISP providers problems, I am forced to go to another provider for Internet services. Hopefully this will be only a temporary problem and I will be back on the high speed service which I have become so reliant upon and accustomed to. More bad news is that although this becomes effective at midnight tonight, it will take approximately 10 days for this new account to become effective. The good news is that I will be out of town for several days during this period and was about to notify everyone to hold anything they might have for me. Hopefully, it will all be settled by the time I return. I will notify everyone as soon as possible. I am truly sorry for this inconvenience. New address is johnfhartman05@netzero.net John
