The Thames-Timms Family Association has been doing DNA testing for the last year or so and have results from several of their lines that has proven helpful to them. It's true that the male descendents from the family line you are researching are the only ones who can take the test. The following is copied from their web-site. *The recommendation was posted to their members since that was the company they chose to use and is not meant to be a recommendation to the reader of this post. You can visit their website or go to the Thames web-site, http://www.thames-tims.org , for more info. *"We are recommending using the Family Tree DNA company for testing. Their website is www.ftdna.com. It is simple to participate and done at home. You order the test over the Internet and receive it by mail. The test is simple, using a toothbrush-like device to scrape the inside of the cheek, put the two samples in a vial provided and return them to the company in a mailer provided by the company. The cost is about $229 for the 37-marker test which we recommend, and it takes about 8 weeks to get the results. You need not be a member of the Thames-Tims Association to participate in this DNA program. If you do not have a computer or access to the Internet, ask someone who does to order the test for you. The price above includes a group discount." If their are any Thames, Timms, Themes or a variant spelling interested in testing, please do go to the website and follow through. Thanks Annette Thames Adler
Sandra, I believe that your Mary Etta Sawyer Johnson is the neice of my wife's great grandmother (Eliza J. [Sawyer] Bell). If you don't mind sharing some of your information on the Sawyer and the Johnson line I would really appreciate it. Hi Ron, How small the world is. What part of Bawlmer do you live in? I lived there for 13 years, off Belair Rd and White Avenue. I am now home in Casselberry, FL. My great-greatgrandfather was Philip Green Belcher, and his daughter Eula Jane Belcher married my greatgrandfather Charlie Dale Cotton. I wish you luck with it. Some of us were surprised that the DNA only works for males of their surname. So my son is no help in my research, just his father's. Hi Everybody! I guess I'm the new kid on the block today, May 21, 2005. I'm researching the surnames Averett, Coaker, Hill, Green, Jordan, McCleod, Sims, Stringer and Watkins, who all lived in Coffee County, specifically Elba and Enterprise. William Green (b. c1784), my gggrandfather, was orginally from North Carolina, I think, but moved to Coffee County. His son Thomas Jefferson Green, m. Jane Mahala Hill, owned a store in Elba and died in 1904. Their daughter, Cora Josephine Green m. my grandfather, John Stringer Jordan, b. 1868, and their daughter, Janie, was my mother. James Jordan (Jourdan), my gggrandfather was b. 1797 in South Carolina and later settled in Elba. His son Alexander McCleod Jordan m. Catherine Elizabeth Stringer, and also owned a store in Elba. Alexander disappeared without a trace in 1879-80. His son was John Stringer Jordan, my grandfather, who died in 1945. John Washington Sims, my ggrandfather, was b. June 6, 1851 in Americus, Sumter County, GA. He m. Lucy Coaker and died August 27, 1917. Their daughter, Daisy Beatrice Sims, my grandmother, m. William Henry Watkins, and their son was my father, John Collis Watkins. Jesse Watkins, my gggrandfather, b. October 18, 1817, in South Carolina, m. Eliza (Jones?). He died July 2, 1885. Their son, Samuel Columbus Watkins, b. August 11, 1854, m. Frenella Dorneallia Averett (1858-1911), from Dale County, whose son was my grandfather, William Henry Watkins. Any links or other information would be deeply appreciated. Ron Watkins Baltimore, MD
Genealogy Chat tonight! Read about below: Hi everyone! We will have the genealogy chat tomorrow night, Monday, May 16th, at 9:00 pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time (8:00 pm Central time). Please come and invite a friend to explore genealogy in the Southern States. Bring your surnames, and any books or other researches that you have to share and join us in our quest for information. We are expanding the chat to include all the Southern states and we hope to expand it to include many new researchers! We look forward to having you with us. Most of us that had ancestors in Alabama also had ancestors in other states in the South, so hopefully this will enable us to gather more information that will help in our research. Come join us...you might meet a new cousin. Just go to www.annesgenealogy.com and sign on with a nickname. The format is easy to follow. If you should get kicked off for any reason, just sign back on by adding a number to your nickname, such as granny would be granny2. We want everyone to come and help us make this a new beginning! If you would like to be added to the reminder list so that you get a reminder each week, just send an email to me at [email protected] and I will be happy to add you to the list. Hope to see lots of you there tomorrow night! Granny (Anne) www.annesgenealogy.com [email protected] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discover Yahoo!
