    3. Meredith, Thanks so much for responding and sending your info. on your husband's Helms. Mine fit into those also....as you will see below, via my father on his mother's TOMBERLIN side. My father, Jay ADAMS' great great Grandfather David TOMBERLIN married Rachel HELMS who was a daughter of John Whitehead HELMS & Lavinia HELMS. My mother's side is a more current Helms connection, but as you stated, those Helms interface so many ways. Hence the more current Helms on my mom's side actually twine back into the same connection...just a different route. Anyhow, below is my father's HELMS connection. And you already are aware of the ones prior to John Whitehead & Lavinia HELMS. John Whitehead HELMS b. 1770 Anson Co., NC d. 1851 Union Co., NC m. 3. Margaret - Several years ago I lost over 9,000 individuals with information from my genealogy database and was never able to recoup that information so I have slowly been trying to rebuild my database! The HELMS surname is one that I have not gotten back to, but I have stacks of papers on the family that I will eventually re-enter. Following are my husband's (Larry Trawick) directline HELMS ancestors. As you know the HELMS line intermarries, so there are little detours, exp. John Whitehead HELMS' marriage to Lavinia HELMS - her father Jonathan is a brother of Tilman Isaac HELMS, Sr. and the directline comes back to their joint father John Isaac HELMS. If you have corrections or additions, please let me know. Would love to see how you are connected to the HELMS Family. 3. Hello Jack, Yes...guess you are right...all the HELMS from Barbour & Coffee Co. are DEFINITELY related! I see that I have a lot of BUTLERs in my database, but don't think that I have yours , unless your name is John Leonard BUTLER. Oops...no...that would be Cherokee Co. AL. Feel free to contact me privately.. to tell me how you connect, but please put HELMS in the subject line. 2. Betty Stokes
    3. My husband's Stokes family were in Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana and finally Illinois. Jim's father moved to Missouri where he married Jim's mother. Then Jim and his parents moved to Texas before 1930. Other branches of the Stokes moved South from Virginia and North Carolina. Stokes Co., North Carolina was named for one of the descendants of the immigrant, Christopher Stokes through his son, William Stokes. I have not made a definite connection to this family, but it appears likely that we are descended from a son named Silvanius/Sylvanius Stokes. My Coffee Co. connections are Watson and Byrd and possibly others who migrated from that area to Shelby Co., TX about 1883. 1. RE: DNA Database
    2. Meredith Drew Trawick
    3. Sandra & Group - I looked into the website as Sandra suggested in her e-mail [below]. Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation "cannot give you information back about the results of your own genetic test, due to privacy issues.". However, a DNA sample and pedigree would be included in their database so that others might find common ancestors they share with you. They suggest obtaining a copy of your genetic markers from a commercial lab such as Relative Genetics. Commercial labs are generally not under the same privacy constraints as SMGF, and are therefore able to send you a copy of your genetic information. Using these genetic markers you could then search the SMGF database for possible ancestors. The SMGF site would not be of help to me finding the DNA of one of my family groups because I would need "information back" to prove a connection between a "supposed" father and son. I checked out the "Relative Genetics" website they suggested (http://www.relativegenetics.com/) which appears to be a better "commercial type" lab for me to use. This particular lab provides several DNA Services at different prices according to how in depth you want to go. Once at the website click on "Which Product Is Right For Me?". I'm sure other commercial labs could be found by consulting a Search Engine (exp. Google).
