Hello THOMAS cousins, hope y'all don't mind but I have a couple of questions about John THOMAS' family. The 1900 Coffee Co., AL census lists the following: Thomas, D.T., 39 AL, b. Oct 1860 wife - Bell, 34 AL, b. Sep 1865 dau - Evie, 14 AL, b. Nov 1885 dau - Spivie, 13 AL, b. Jun 1886 son - Hiliard, 10 AL, b. Feb 1890 dau - Elie, 8 AL, b. Jan 1892 dau - Neily, 6 AL, b. Jan 1894 dau - Mattie, 4 AL, b. Dec 1895 dau - Money - 1 AL, b. Nov 1898 D.T. & Bell had been married 15 years and Bell had 8 children with 7 living. Then the 1910 Coffee Co., AL census has this: Thomas, David T., 47 AL wife - Virginia B., 44 AL son - Hilliard, 20 AL dau - Ely, 18 AL dau - Nelly, 16 AL dau - Monie, 11 AL dau - Nettie L., 7 AL son - George M., 5 AL dau - Katie L., 1-6/12 AL dau - Cosly, Spivey, 22 AL - widow w/1 child gr-son - Cosly, James, 5 AL hired man - Darby, Lou, 25 AL David & Virginia had been married 25 years and Virginia had 12 children with 9 living. The widowed daughter, Spivey, later married Grady Thames and they are listed on the 1920 census in their own HH. Daughter Monie married James Costillo "Coss" Thames and they are also in their own HH on the 1920 census. I don't know who the rest of the children married. The 1920 Coffee Co., AL census lists the following: Thomas, David T., 60 AL wife - Virginia B., 55 AL dau - Nettie L., 15 AL son - George M., 14 AL dau - Katie L., 12 AL 1st question is about "Bone's" name: 1910 & 1920 census lists his name as David, not Daniel and all 3 census lists his next initial as T., what does T. stand for? 2nd question is, if John Thomas is son of "Bone" and Virginia, why is he not listed on the 1900, 1910 or 1920 census? John Thomas was the son of Daniel Jacob Napoleon Bonaparte "Bone" Thomas and Virginia Belle Helms, the grandson of William Henry Thomas and Rhodia Nancy HARPER Thomas. He is buried near his grandmother and grandfather. Uncle "Bone", his father, was my grandmother's uncle being the brother of her sister Mary Frances THOMAS Harrison.
Sparta is located south of Evergreen, Al . It is no longer there as the railroad ran north of Sparta and everyone moved to the railroad area. There are a few bricks of foundation and that is about all. I heard there as a grave with about 5 people buried there. It is off a dirt road. The old road ran from Evergreen to Castleberry. At the top of the hill when you run into a fork, you take the right road and go about 4 miles. I am sure there will be a sign pointing to the site. If not stop and ask along the way. I use to live up there until 1943.

This is about all I have on David Harper: David Harper was living in Jackson County, Florida in 1830 (page 093 of that census) and from that census he was shown with three sons and two daughters: one son born: 1820-1825 two sons born: 1825-1830 two daughters born: 1825-1830 By 1840 the David Harper family was back in Henry County, Alabama (page 169 of that census) and was shown with the following twelve children: one son born: 1820-1825 three sons born: 1825-1830 two sons born: 1830-1835 one daughter born: 1820-1825 one daughter born: 1825-1830 one daughter born: 1830-1835 three daughters born: 1835-1840 I didn't have the chance to make an extensive search of the Alabama and Florida censuses to locate them in 1850. In the 18th June 1860 Henry County, Alabama census, household # 152, the Harper household included the following: William M. Harper age 33, b 1827 Florida Sarah F. Harper age 5, b 1855 Alabama May Harper age 57 b 1804 North Carolina John M. Harper age 32 b 1828 Florida Margarite Harper age 25 b 1835 Alabama Elizabeth Harper age 24 b 1836 Alabama Patience E. Harper age 22 b 1838 Alabama Epsey Harper age 19 b 1841 Alabama James M. Webb age 6 b 1854 Alabama John Webb age 5 b 1855 Alabama It's pretty obvious that the above listing included William Harper's siblings and mother, and maybe the Webb children were nephews from an unknown sister's children. If Epsey Harper was the youngest daughter, then her father David died after 1841 in Alabama. I believe that should be read assignee: assignee (law) the party to whom something is assigned (e.g., someone to whom a right or property is legally transferred)

Hey Joan, Thanks so much for your help!! I have been entering into my Thomas and Harper files since we got home from supper tonight. I did not have all in the computer so it was time to stop and do it. I appreciate your and Willie's help on the Harper and Thomas files. Without your help, I would not have hardly anything. So I really do appreciate you for it all. A couple weeks ago, a cousin, in her 80's contacted me about the family history. I had emailed her earlier. She is such a dear. She knew my Grandmother Susan Thomas Warr, daughter of Mary Ann Thomas and John Warr. She is a good writer and is giving me information about Granny. I am so grateful and am enjoying our emails. She mailed me the picture of John Thomas grave marker. We was not sure how he was connected but knew he was kin. Thanks again, Sincerely, pat. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joan" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 12, 2005 2:32 AM Subject: Re: [ALCOFFEE] John Thomas > Did you realize that your grandmother, Aunt Mary Ann Thomas and my > great-grandmother are sisters? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Pat Overby" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, August 11, 2005 10:52 PM > Subject: Re: [ALCOFFEE] John Thomas > > Thank you, Joan.
