    1. Fw: [ALCOFFEE] THOMAS/WARR mystery
    2. Shelby Corcoran
    3. First, I'd like to say "thank you" to Jerry for the THOMAS information that you sent. Second, I'd like to add some information that may help Jerry and other THOMAS/WARR researchers. This is in regards to Mary Ann THOMAS and John WARR and their children. If anyone can add or make corrections to my information it would be greatly appreciated. Third, I have a mystery about Mary Ann & John that I'm hoping someone can help solve. John Thomas WARR, b. May 1847, probably in Coffee County, AL and died about 1932 in Coffee County, AL, was the son of William WARR & Mary Ann HARRELL. His first marriage, about 1868, was to Mary Ann THOMAS, daughter of William Henry THOMAS, Jr. & Rhodia Nancy Harper. Mary Ann THOMAS was born on 19 May 1848 and she died (according to information from other researchers), on 14 April 1890 during the childbirth of her youngest daughter Felice Ophelia WARR. John and Mary Ann had at least eight children (I believe it was a THOMAS tradition to give their children multiple names, at least that would seem to be the case): 1. Frances Mary Ann Martha Susan Thomas WARR, b. 21 Sep 1869, married John Tyler CROLEY. 2. Wealthia Anna Alice Pearlie WARR, b. 30 May 1875, married Seaborn Jasper MATHIS (MATHEWS) - this is my line. 3. John Thomas WARR, Jr., b. Jan 1880, married Ella MATHIS. 4. Mattie WARR, b. Jun 1881, married Ab DAVIS. 5. Lula WARR, b. Jun 1884, married W.J. MATHIS. 6. Della Ella Mealy Arkansas WARR, b. Aug 1886, married Gus DAVIS. 7. Rosa A. WARR, b. Aug 1889. I don't know who she married. 8. Felice Ophelia WARR, b. 14 Apr 1890, married Polk "Poke" Adkison. Note that there are only 8 months between the births of Rosa and Felice. My guess is that Mary Ann became pregnant with Felice too soon after birth of Rosa and she had problems that led to her death with the early delivery of Felice. Now, here's my big mystery problem: I have a copy of the marriage record of John WARR and his second wife Alice STOKES. They were married on 04 Sep 1889 in Coffee County, AL. John was age 43 and Alice was age 20. How could they have gotten married before John's first wife Mary Ann died??? Mary Ann's hand carved grave marker says she died on 14 Apr 1890. John and Alice's first child, Warren J. WARR was born 06 Jun 1891 (according to his WW1 draft record). It was first reported to me that he was born in 1890, which only added to the mystery, but I recently saw his draft record and that cleared up that part of the mystery. Can anybody out there help explain how John and Alice could legally marry before Mary Ann died? ----- Original Message ----- From: Lavista To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, August 15, 2005 5:02 PM Subject: Re: [ALCOFFEE] John Thomas for Shelby Shelby, John Carmichael Thomas who married my paternal great-aunt Connie Mae Danford is the son of Daniel Joshua Thomas, not David T. "Bone" Thomas. I made a mistake when submitting a partial listing of New Haven Baptist Church Cemetery that may have caused the confusion. I have corrected my error and submitted the changes to Phyllis for posting. Sorry! Jerry This is what I have on the Thomas' in Coffee County, Alabama and it could have errors or omissions. Descendants of William Henry Thomas, Sr. Generation No. 1 1. WILLIAM HENRY1 THOMAS, SR. was born 1790 in Georgia. He married LUCRETIA (NEE?) THOMAS. She was born 1810 in South Carolina. Notes for WILLIAM HENRY THOMAS, SR.: Sources: US Census, Coffee County, Alabama, Research of Sam C. Thomas, WFT Vol 13, Tree 3249. Children of WILLIAM THOMAS and LUCRETIA THOMAS are: 2. i. Generation No. 2 2. WILLIAM HENRY2 THOMAS, JR. (WILLIAM HENRY1) was born 15 Jan 1827 in Georgia, and died 15 Jan 1892 in Coffee County, AL. He married RHODA NANCY HARPER Abt. 1847 in Coffee County, AL, daughter of JOSEPH HARPER and MARIAH STEVENS. She was born 10 Oct 1825 in Clarke County, GA, and died 12 Jul 1880 in Coffee County, AL. Notes for WILLIAM HENRY THOMAS, JR.: Wm Thomas, age 54 born in Georgia as were his parents, wife Nancy 55 born in Georgia, her father in Virginia, and her mother in Georgia, and their children; Mary An (sic) 32, Joe 27, Frances 30, Jns W. (sic) (Jonathan) 20, N.P. (male) (sic) 19, and Daniel J. 17 were living in Peacock's Precinct, Coffee County, Alabama on June 18, 1880 when the census was taken. The male "N.P." entry could be the source of some researchers tagging "Daniel Joshua Newton Jefferson Pickney Honecutt Thomas" as one name. But clearly, Daniel J.(oshua) was the youngest on the census at 17 and the entry above him, N.P. 19 could be his brother David T. Thomas. Perhaps the Newton Pickney belongs to him, not his younger brother, Daniel. 3. Thank you for the 1880 information, that is indeed the same family. Incidentally, the 32 year old daughter, Mary An, is also listed in her own HH in Coffee County as the 26 year old wife of John WOR with children Susan age 10, Anna age 4 (my grandmother) and John age 3. (Mary Ann married John WARR, sometimes spelled WOR). Age 32 is the correct age, she was born 19 May 1848. I'm still hoping someone can find the THOMAS family on the 1870 census. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2005 6:09 PM Subject: Re: [ALCOFFEE] THOMAS on 1870 census (1880 Census Here is the 1880 census that looks like it is the family you are looking for Good luck William THOMAS Self M Male W 54 GA Farmer GA GA Nancy THOMAS Wife M Female W 55 GA VA GA Mary An THOMAS Dau M Female W 32 AL GA GA Joe THOMAS Son M Male W 27 AL GA GA Frances THOMAS Dau S Female W 30 AL GA GA John H. 3. Hi Debra, I have sent off for the death certificate on John Franklin Sims but haven't received it yet. I'll copy it for you as soon as I get it. In the meantime, I have spoken with a couple of living children of John Franklin and they have confirmed that Carlton Sims, b. 1915 and d. 1976 did in fact marry Sara Wood. They really didn't know a lot, really they didn't know anything and even asked me to call and let them know who John Franklin's parents were as soon as I found out. I have a call in to another person who might be able to help me and as soon as I speak with him I'll let you know if he can tell me anything new. 3. Shelby, John Carmichael Thomas who married my paternal great-aunt Connie Mae Danford is the son of Daniel Joshua Thomas, not David T. Children of WILLIAM THOMAS and LUCRETIA THOMAS are: 2. i. WILLIAM HENRY2 THOMAS, JR., b. 15 Jan 1827, Georgia; d. 15 Jan 1892, Coffee County, AL. ii. DEBORAH THOMAS, b. 21 Jun 1833, Georgia. 3. iii. MATILDA THOMAS, b. 18 Aug 1846, Alabama. 2. Lavista
    3. Phyllis, Please make these corrections/additions to what I submitted. It is found under "submitted cemeteries, New Haven Baptist Church Cemetery. Where I wrote "Thomas, David T. "Bone" Son of William Henry Thomas, Jr. (b: January 15, 1827 d: January 15, 1892 bu: Richburg Cemetery Son of William Henry Thomas, Sr. and Lucretia Thomas" delete that bullet and delete the one that begins "Thomas, D.T. b: Nov 14, 1861 . . . " then insert this new entry that replaces both previous entries. Thomas, D.T. b: Nov 14, 1861 d: June 15, 1946 "Uncle Bone" (With M.E. Danford, Nettie Thomas and Virginia Belle Thomas) (Note: David T. "Bone" Thomas is the son of William Henry Thomas, Jr. who was b: January 15, 1827 d: January 15, 1892 bu: Richburg Cemetery. D.T. David was the grandson of William Henry Thomas, Sr. and Lucretia (nee?) Thomas. (David married Virginia Belle Helms, daughter of John W. Helms and Barbara Rebecca Adkinson) (one of David's children was Nettie Lee Thomas who married Zema Ray Danford.) In addition, where I wrote "Thomas, John Carmichael b: October 23, 1892 d: September 8 1968 Son of David T. "Bone" Thomas; Husband of Connie DANFORD Thomas, please change that to read; Thomas, John Carmichael b: October 23, 1892 d: September 8 1968 Son of Daniel Joshua Thomas and Nancy Amanda Barnes - both buried at Damascus Baptist Church, Coffee County, Alabama; Husband of Connie DANFORD Thomas. My entry "Thomas, Nettie May 9, 1903 d: Dec 8, 1975" can be modified to read Thomas, Nettie (Lee) May 9, 1903 d: Dec 8, 1975, (daughter of David T. & Virginia Belle Helms Thomas) (Nettie married Zema Ray Danford, the M.E. Danford marker with her is apparently a child by Zema Danford.) Jerry Segars
