I had heard that maybe Epsey's second husband was Rayford Faircloth, Jr. That won't work, because Epsey "Farecloth" was 29 in 1850 and already married to Rayford, whereas Epsey Fleming was 23 in 1860 and married to Creech. I don't have any ot these records in front of me and this info in from memory, so please forgive me if the dates are a little off. Do you know who the father of Gassaway (Sr.) was? Some of the Internet records say that he was the son of John Fleming. One Gedcom records Gassaway as a descendant of John Weatherford, but I have checked this out and found it to be incorrect. Her funeral services were on 08 August 2005, held at Post Oak Baptist Church, in Qzark, Alabama. Reverend Don Moore officiated. Mrs. Portwood was buried at Westview Memorial Cemetery. Fuqua- Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark, Alabama handled the ceremonies. Mrs. Portwood was born in New Brockton, Alabama on 07 November,1933. Her parents were John R.(deceased)and Annie Elizabeth (Johnson)Strickland of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the wife of James Columbus Portwood of Ozark, Alabama. She is survived by 3 Sons, Jimmy Columbus, Gene and William Derrell, 1 Daughter, Diane, 1 Step daughter, Brenda, 4 Sisters, Lucille, Gladys, Brenda and Betty, 2 Brothers, Roy and David, 16 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. Additional Comments: Mrs. Portwood, along with being a homemaker, mother and grandmother, has worked for Avondale Mills , Cowikee Mills and Dale Medical Center in Ozark, Alabama for many years. Mrs. Portwood has previously lived in Ariton and Brundidge, Alabama. He had several daughters, one of which was Gatsey who married twice - m1 to William Creech and m2 to John Hall. All were in Coffee Co., AL. Creech by whom she had one son was killed in the Civil War. She then married Hall and had several children. She and Hall are buried in Harrison Cemetery.
