    3. The subject fairly well has been concerning the old Coffee County High School/Enterprise Junior High School and the Simmons surname. Of course, the topic can change with the arrival of any email....and can change several times in one day or hour. So with that, I guess I will add a new subject right now...of course, all emails on the school and Simmons or anything else are still welcome. *smiles* Happy Fathers' Day to all of the gentlemen on our happy li'l list!! Now on to another subject: I plan to have a webpage for each surname from Coffee County in the Members Only section of the PRHGS website one day. I am adding pages as I receive information. If you are not a member of the PRHG Society, your support would be greatly appreciated. I would like to see 300 members total. Annual membership dues are $20. Come join to show our support of the PRHGS efforts! There is a link to join via PayPal on the PRHGS website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~alprhgs Everyone be careful out while transcribing those headstones. Be watchful for snakes and spiders. Carry water and a cell phone. If you can, have a partner with you, and even so, let someone know where you are going and when you will return home. And last but not least, be watchful of the temperature and its effect on you. Again, HAPPY FATHERS' DAY!! You all take care now..... Phyllis J. K. 3. I did a little research tonight after returning home from work. The Enterprise Junior High School burned on April 18, 1970. The address is 401 West College Street. I also found where Mr. Charlie Simmons (who I think is Mrs. Carey's grandfather that she mentioned in her email) purchased the lumber from the school when it was razed in 1919. The lumber was used to build the Warren and Bevis homes on West College Street. While writing, I would like invite all to join the Pea River Historical and Genealogical Society to show your support for their efforts. Membership is $20 per year. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JoyceSimsSevert Surnames: Sims, Walker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.coffee/3240/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Message that I posted on as many boards as I could think of: I am looking for information on W. F. Sims. I believe that he was married prior to marrying Rosa Lee Walker Sims who died 20 April 1969. After Rosa Lee died he is said to have married Chloe Esther (Cloester) Walker. Chloe Esther/ Cloester was a cousin of Rosa Lee's first husband, John William Frank Walker. John was born 22 August 1912 in Rutledge, Crenshaw County, Alabama. His parents were Newton Joshua Walker (b. 14 August 1888) and Alice Parish. Other siblings were: James Thomas, b. 1915; Leander, b. 1918; Josephine, b. 1920; and Ola, b. 1924. I "assume" that Newton's first wife, Alice died and he then married Mary Elizabeth Layton (not sure of spelling). They had Nora, Flossie Bell, Mary and Eugene ("Gene") but I don't have dates. This information on the Walker's is listed in the hopes that someone might be able to place Chloe Esther (Cloester) Walker. In regard to W. F. Sims, he was called Bud and that is how most people knew him. I have been told that his parents were John H. (possibly Homer or Hines) and Cora (unknown maiden name) Sims. On the 1920 Crenshaw County census below, there appears a Bud, 5 years old, and I have been told that W. L. "Bud" was born in 1915. 1910 Pike County, Indian Hill Branch, District 143, Beat 15 (?), Enumerated 19 April 1910 Family and Dwelling 26 Sims, John, head, 22, married 1 Cora, wife, 20, married 1 John H. Sims lives next door to his parents, James Henry and Mary Elizabeth Hines Sims and his sister, Katie Nora who still lives at home and is single and 20 years old. 1920 Crenshaw County Census, Luverne, District 83, Precinct 14, Family and Dwelling 21, Enumerated 2 January 1820 Image # 2 @ancestry.com 21/21 Sims, John, head, 35 Cora, wife, 27 Vera, dau, 7 Bud, son, 5 Hugh, son, 4 1/12 (possibly 1 1/2) Rosa Lee Sims was a child of William "Will" Richard Sims, b. 18 February 1877, and Georgia Ann Walker, b. ca. 1882 so that would make Rosa Lee and W. F. Cousins. William and John Sims listed above in the census are brothers, both children of James Henry and Mary Elizabeth Hines Sims. According to the 1910 Coffee County, Deanville, Alabama Census, "Will" Sims said that he had been married one time for 4 years. Georgia Ann Walker said that she had been married twice and 4 years in her current marriage which would have been to Will, so I don't know if she was born a Walker or married a Walker. After Will died, she married twice more; once to a Bush and then to a Smith. This is the obituary of Rosa Lee (nee) Sims Walker Sims that appeared in the Montgomery Advertiser written by her husband, W. F. Sims. Montgomery Advertiser Brantley Obituary: Rosa Lee Sims Appeared 22 April 1969 Sims, Rose Lee, 56, died at the home of her daughter early Sunday morning. Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM from Turner's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Green Hill Cemetery in Troy. Survivors include her husband W. F. Sims, Brantley; two sons, Billy Ray (Richard) Walker, Perry, Florida and Junior Walker, Brantley; one daughter Mary Shavers (Chavers), Millbrook; two sisters, Miss Lela Mae Sims and Mrs. Leona Hobby, Perry, Florida; one brother, Bewey (Dewey) Sims, Elba and seven grandchildren. I hope to hear from anyone who might have any information on any of these people/families. 3. Hi Helen, My wife is Margaret Mixson. When she graduated in 1951 the school was named Coffee County High School. This building burned some time in the late 1960s, she does not know the date. The building was replaced and at sometime the name was changed to "Enterprise Junior High School". The current telephone book does not show a street number, just "West College Street". The telephone number for this school is: 334-393-1733. The telephone number for the Coffee County Board of Education is: 334-347-9531. I hope this information will be of benefit. 3. Hey Phyllis, The old Enterprise High School was once an elementary or junior high school several years ago. The building was still there. I can't remember the name of the streets. Think College street is correct. Maybe someone that lives around Enterprise will know more about her grandparents home. pat. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phyllis J. K.
