B. Sept 1894 Al. married 3/8/1917 Carroll Co. Ga., Myrtle Nixon b 1892 D. 1973. Linda: I can tell you more on the "Nixon" connection -- Myrtle was the daughter of Robert Paran Nixon & Annie Lenora Bohanan. Robert was named for the two gentlemen that saved his father's life in the War: Abner Nixon wrote of Robert's name in the family bible: "I name this child in honor of Dr. Robert Steele of Pinkingville, Illinois, a Federal Surgeon, and Mr. Paran, a Confederate Soldier. Dr. Steele amputated my wounded foot march 24, 1863 and treated me kindly while I was prisoner of war. Mr. Paran was from Texas. He nursed me while confined after my foot was amputated. To the kindness of these two men and the helping of God, I owe my life. I do not name this child in honor of the Federal cause. I am, was, and will be a States Rights Democrat." Per Abner & Eliza Matilda (McSwain) Nixon family bible, in possession of Andrew Lovelace. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Myrtle's paternal Grandparents were Abner Nixon & Eliza Matilda McSwain. We would love to determine his parents. . . I think he may be some sort of Kin to the Absalom "Hawk" Nixon gang of Randolph Co., AL. I think Abner may have ties to the Old 96/Laurens District, SC area as does Absalom. Her maternal grandfather was Joseph Alavia Bohannon Myrtle was also sister to "The Twins" - Mable & Mildred Nixon. Mable married Joseph Arthur Walls. Mildred married Virgil Preston Nixon, kin to my husband's Nixon line [Joseph Nixon/Martha Ward of Oglethorpe > Walton > Coweta Co.). The Twins were born in 1908. Mable died in 2003; Mildred died in 2004, so they both lived well into their 90s. They did some family research and I have a copy of the work they did, as Mildred tried to find a connection b/t her families Nixon branch and that of her husband's. Found this on B. H.
